while on a whole the ff6 ost might be better than the CT ost, compare singular songs and CT takes #1 and #2, magus' theme and at the bottom of the night blow everything else on both soundtracks away

Has anyone actually tried using cartridge with savegames from the early 90's lately?

I wonder if all my old CT characters are still there. I have no intentions of bothering to hook my SNES up again to find out, just a curiosity of what kind of lifespan those things have.

Mine died years ago Which is odd because my gold cartridge version of Zelda lasted longer then the one for the SNES.

Here's an article on how to change the battery, but you lose the saves if you haven't already.

I played through both Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy VI at the time of their release and I have absolutely no recollection of CT's music. So I went and checked youtube to listen to these masterpieces I had forgotten. While I was there I also gave a listen to some FFVI tracks, along with Actraiser 2 and Castlevania IV. Result: while pleasant and benefiting from a nice set of midi instruments, CT's music are nothing special.

I can understand your attachment if listening to CT's tracks summons the emotions you had when playing the game, but they cannot be compared to something as ambitious and ample as Dancing Mad, the suite that accompanies the multi-part end battle of FFVI. In fact, FFVI has a relationship with music that has probably no equivalent in video games. In what other game can one find two monumental musical sequences (three if you add the final medley)? We are talking here music made out of multiple movements used for sequences that last more than 15 minutes!

I don't see what the hubbub about the music is in any of these games, but that's just me.

If you don't remember the music from CT, you probably didn't play it too much.

My fav themes from the game are flying music, the piano overland theme, Zeal, undersea base, Ayla's theme, the "epic" boss music (Masamune, Son of Sun, King Tyrano), Gaspar's death, Magus, Guardia Castle, and the lavos battle.

There's more than a hint of hypocrisy here.

The Final Battles in CT progressively build on the same central chords and rhythms. I'm sure this seems less impressive to you because of the emotions you associate with Dancing Mad and the multi-part end battle.

The FF6 music is without a doubt grander, which is fine because the game tells a grander tale. CT features tune which do an incredible job of capturing the feel of it's various eras which is no less consequential.

I played the hell out of it from start to finish, but how long has it been? Early 90's? I may have briefly toyed around with on an emulator within the past 10 years, but I don't remember when.

Jesus fuck I'm such a giant nerd. I just listened to Locke's theme on Youtube, first time hearing it in like 10 years, and a tear comes to my eye thinking about the whole cheesy lost love story in World of Ruin and when I FINALLY, FINALLY after a shit hard and annoying dungeon finally got my favorite character back.

God I loved that game.
