Agreed. They're not really bringing all that much new to the table. It's a re-release, not a remake. I still have my copy of Final Fantasy Chronicles and the load times aren't that bad. They're bad, but if I feel the need to replay the game, I don't have to buy it again.

If they wanted to remake it onto the PS3 or 360, then I'd gladly shell out the dough for either of those consoles + the game.

I didn't get to play this on the SNES or PS1, but now I will. However, FFV is still the best rpg ever.

I went through EVERY SINGLE ENDING on the Snes version at least half a dozen times and the PS1 version a couple times.

CT shits all over the FF series so badly that it not being continued properly is the greatest travesty of all time.

The best way to play CT right now really is to load up the PS1 version in ePSXe, imo. Especially if you want to tweak graphics options to make it look a bit better.

I never really got Square's reluctance to do a proper sequel. When Chrono Cross came out and people complained it was a shitty sequel to CT, the developer of CC said something along the lines of "I don't think people get what the Chrono games are supposed to be about!".

No, sir, you didn't get what they are supposed to be about. The assholes even removed Magus because they were afraid people would just play him instead of the 30+ generic, non-developed, homogeneous shit characters they stuffed into that game.

"I know...lets make one character...A PLANT!!!"

If FFIII would have ended before the world of ruin I would consider it the best RPG of all time. Since it didn't, CT wins out.

I fucking hate remakes and this game is no exception, except for the fact that so few people have access to the original game, so ultimately it's a positive since it allows people to get their hands on a physical copy of Chrono Trigger. Even though it's old, it's one of the games that stands out in my mind as changing the way I played games and raising my expectations for stories henceforth. Everyone should play it at least once.

The music of CT is amazing. Even after playing the game 10 years ago. I still listen to the OST regularly and remember all the corresponding scenes. Now the starting musical score of FF6 is aso amazing, but i dont think the whole score of FF6 compares as a whole vs the Soundtrack of CT.

But like someone said both games are truly the epitome of RPG of the SNES.

Talking about DS, RPG and remakes, ArtePiazza's brilliant Dragon Quest V remake for the PS2 (a strong case of a 3D remake being better than the original) is being rereleased on DS these days in japan and is suposed to be released in the US at some point.

This game, while super old school and simplistic, delivers a feeling of adventuring like no other RPG I played (I am no Sean though). My advice: Keep an eye on this one.

EDIT: They made a remake of DQIV directly for DS that will be released in september in the US, so V is probably after that.

QTF .. many people often confuse others statements of "This game IS SHIT" for "this game is THE SHIT" - I dont get what the love for 8 is...the story is unneedingly convaluted almost to the point of FFX and the characters are such a mesh of FF7 and 6 wannabes its not even funny.

CT remake should be good, much like the FF4 remake is looking to be great- I had fun with FF3DS.
