+25 Internets | I support the idea of making a game that looks like a NES game and in fact I think that since they also kept a vintage gameplay it works a lot better with this style than this excruciatingly ugly Bionic Commando remake (it's almost up there with Street Fighter: The Movie). I also like the fact that with the vintage look and the vintage gameplay they are still doing things that were probably not possible to do at the time on the NES (these animated platforms that seem to empty themselves, megaman spinning around that other platform), etc. Still, I would find it more interesting if instead of making it neo-classic, they would do it post-modern and really challenge our expectations, mix the cards, blur the trails. Sadly it seems like 100% fan service so I doubt it will happen.

+25 Internets | I feel there is something absolutely not working between the classic level design and gameplay and the "realistic" modernization and the 3D animations (the classic gameplay forces a lack of transition between the different animation cycles which is ok when these cycle are rudimentary but very awkward when they are 60fps 3D animations). Plus the art direction (or lack of thereof) seems pretty sad. No amount of dynamic shadows can change that.

| Bumping this - it just came out for the Wii today I believe.. Wednesday PSN I think - and then Oct. 1st for the XBLA. Any thoughts/impressions of the game so far for people that have played it? Really interested in getting the title. Wanted to hear some FOH Feedback ![]() Edit: Err, I guess its Thursday for PSN. Last edited by Goltana_R-Zek; 09-22-2008 at 02:15 PM.. |

+8 Internets | First Impressions: Holy fuck, I'm out of touch with old school games. Started out with Jewel man's stage and proceeded to get my ass handed to me. Maybe it wasn't the best place to start, but all I can say is holy fuck... More impressions to come. Edit: Yea... My happy memories of Mega Man must stem from Mega Man X and not any of the NES games. I've tried out all the levels, and all of them are tough. Comparably, the levels are harder than Sigma's Fortress. A lot of this stems from the fact that Mega Man is vulnerable from all sides, can't shoot upwards, and can't shoot at things parallel to his feet. Mega Man X at least fixed the feet thing with charged shots. Oh, and he doesn't move too quick either -- I must have depended upon the dash in Mega Man X too much. I've heard that you can get the dash upgrade somewhere in this game, but haven't found it yet. There's some cool things going on in the stages, but unfortunately, it's those cool things that kick your ass and send you back to the beginning to try again. A lot of it is vicious platforming that outright kills you and has you restart from the beginning/checkpoint. It's certainly doable, but man it's got a high learning curve. The problem (which can probably be applied to old school games in general) is that there is a lot of little shit that you have to remember, and if you don't, then you'll die and go back. I managed to make it all the way to fight Splash Woman, but was on my last life, died, and would have had to retry the entire stage. It's a little frustrating, to say the least. On a positive note, the music is great. Really captures the old NES feel. Last edited by Neph; 09-23-2008 at 05:02 PM.. |

| Old mega man games are not hard, it's just a matter of memorizing the stages or moving very slow. All the bosses in the series are cake once you get the pattern down.
