| While I thoroughly enjoyed the Metal Gear Solid storylines and plots in the games so far, I can understand that some people might get turned off by it. It borrows quite a few elements from animé which some people just despise for some reason, and also some people have trouble putting together the overall realism of the political situations mentionned in the game, the real life agencies mentionned, the relatively correct scientific explainations to some stuff, and suddenly you encounter mystical enemies (Vulcan Raven in MGS1, Vamp in MGS2, The Sorrow in MGS3), or just plain odd (The Fear in MGS3), and some with superpowers! (Psycho Mantis and Decoy Octopus in MGS1). While most of those characters in the game have interesting personalities and are fun to fight against, I'll admit I've always favored more "grounded" villains like Revolver Ocelot, Sniper Wolf or The Boss / The Joy. |

| The games are postmodern in a literary sense. The "wtf?" factor is intended, and the depth and intricacy are uncontested in video games. That is all I'm going to say.' I don't begrudge people who don't enjoy the plot. I just don't want to argue with a troll. |

| I'm pretty disappointed to see the reviews for this game up until now. I was definitely planning on doing a run-through of it, and I still am, but it's a shame to see it hasn't even broken an 85 average on Metacritic. I feel like games that have a genuinely stellar element (like the orgasmic combat of Ninja Gaiden) deserve more recognition than they get. ALL games are essentially niche at some level because they have a single most appealing element to them, yet the games that seem to do many things well but nothing amazingly seem to get more credit in the end so long as theyre polished and have good voice acting. +6 Internets | Well in NG2's defense, most of the negative reviews seem to revolve around how difficult the game is. It has gotten it's highest reviews from writers that are actually good at video games. I'll reserve my judgment for when the game comes out but it appears that most reviewers just get frustrated with how bad they are at it. |

Ninja Gaiden Black (xbx: 2005): Reviews Anyway, quick demo review: You only get to play the first level and not even the whole thing... and only on the easiest difficulty level. Only enemies I saw were the black Spider clan dudes with either claws or swords. One had a bow that fired flaming arrows. Oh, there was a single teleporting dude with sais/shoots fireballs but the 3 times I played through the demo, I raped him so fast he didn't do shit. You get a max level Dragon Sword, Scythe, and Claws right at the start (only for demo obviously). You'll find the staff (maxed) later on, but I never really fucked around with it. You'll find 2 Nimpo arts... the fireball one, and the wind-blade one. Combat is fucking amazing, no surprise. There's been a bunch of small changes that a lot of people probably won't notice. Like your counter-attacks can now miss, you can't train essence after a fight, etc. Enemy AI is rather aggressive even on the easiest difficulty. The health regen makes it near impossible to die though. There's not enough red bar (un-regenerating health) after a fight on the easiest difficulty... but meh, what the hell do you expect. Camera sucks. Might be nostalgia speaking, but it feels worse than the original. With all the close-ups with OT/UT's and teleporting attacks, just mashing the "center behind ryu" button can be more disorienting than helpful. I'm sure I'll get use to it, the same way I got use to DMC4's camera but meh. Didn't encounter any FPS dips/lag. Largest fight was me vrs 6 dudes I think. Claws are fucking face rapers. That's pretty much it.

+12 Internets | Also stuck with the delayed shipment.. but im going to go pick it up here in about 10 minutes. I'll play the shit out of it if i have time before class and then post something shortly after :P so dissapointed i didnt get to play it last night, damn delay edit: Only got about half hour of play, not too far in i got an experience of frame rate dropping.. had about 6-8 guys on me with flame archers in the background which caused it i believe... other than that the games pretty awesome so far. cant say much about bosses or weapons yet since i havent played much. +12 Internets | IMO, worse than the first. but this is only from playing through maybe half of the first stage.. i noticed in hallways id pretty much be facing a wall the entire time lol. I dont mind it though because the gameplay makes up for it for sure. |
