| New Square-Enix RPG for X360 - Infinite Undiscovery Link: Comments - Infinite Undiscovery Arrives September 2 - Shacknews - PC Games, PlayStation, Xbox 360 and Wii video game news, previews and downloads Infinite Undiscovery Arrives September 2 by Aaron Linde May 21, 2008 3:08pm CST tags: Infinite Undiscovery, Screenshots Publisher Square Enix has announced that its upcoming menu-based Xbox 360 RPG Infinite Undiscovery will reach North American shores on September 2. The company also released a handful of new screenshots of the title. Developed in collaboration with Valkyrie Profile and Star Ocean creator tri-Ace, Infinite Undiscovery is said to feature a real-time world where every decision and action has an impact on the surrounding environment and battle encounter. "To make careful decisions and advance, players will need to rely not only on sight and sound, but also scent," the developer asserted in a press release. Players will find out whatever that's supposed to mean when the title debuts this September. ![]() ![]() Looks exciting? Hopefully they proves to be a hit but its Square-Enix how could they go wrong? |

| Square-Enix has developed/published alot more shitty titles than good ones since they became Square-Enix. Tri-Ace, however, is still a top-notch studio and this game should be excellent.

| This might make me get a 360, finally. I hope so much that they fix all the hardware issues though =\. Gonna have to agree with the tri-Ace comment. I have yet to find a tri-Ace game I didn't pour 500+ hours into. |

| This is exciting! It says you can make decisions, so I'm hoping it's like Mass Effect where you can change the tone of a conversation and eventually the game (though not necessarily the story in whole). I always love those types of games as it makes the RPG feel more real. :-) Can't wait to buy it. ![]()

| Could be interesting. I just wish S-E would ditch the lame-ass emo/effeminate character art already. It's really time to take their character art in a new direction. Just once I'd love to see a modern-day Square RPG where the women don't look like 12-year-old, quasi-Asian schoolgirls and the men don't look like 12-year-old, quasi-Asian schoolgirls. |

| Frankly, it feels like FF12 next gen with the open world and real time battles. Which makes me damn happy. Day one, etc etc. Btw this is a true worldwide release, pal continent gets it the 5th of september, just 3 days later. So, 360 gets 4 jrpgs this year? Lost Odyssey, Tales of Vesperia, Infinite Undiscovery and Cry On? Aw man, still scarce. |

| Anybody else think one of the younger male(lol jrpg cliche?) characters looks could pretty much be a "redone" with a lack of better words of jack from radiata stories? game looks neat though, i'll be getting it regardless! |

+25 Internets | The problem is that the market for jrpg outside Japan is not big enough to cater to it. Now, one can argue that it could be bigger if the art style of jrpg was more culturally appropriate, but that would imply taking the risk to alienate their huge domestic market. As long as japanese pop icons will remain androgynous guys in Vivienne Westwood outfits, we'll have to accept that jrpg, a genre that attracts a lot of female players, will use this pop iconography (EDIT: If anything I am surprised male homosexuality, a thematic that moves tons of manga targeted at girls, has only been used for some dating sims or as pretty tasteless comedy in games like MGS3 or Shadow Heart 2)

| The bigger problem is there isn't many western developers actually making RPGs. I mean we can complain about the JRPG androgynous look, but look at the grizzle faced bald white buff guy that pretty much every other FPS game as a hero, or supporting characters. It's the same thing, it's developing to the market you know will buy it which is simply cost effective. Look at Shepard in Mass Effect (ignoring the customization options, though they are all essentially the same build). There is a reason for that. |
