Okay...Where did the platforming and collect-a-thon style go?

Huh. So is it a game about building/racing things or was that just what this vid was showing off?

Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts Xbox 360 Preview, Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts Preview

explains it.

Sounds pretty cool to me. I've been bored of collect-a-thon platformers since the N64 died.

Of course, you could always go through the game without building a single thing yourself, relying entirety on premade vehicles. The first real mission I tried took place in the rolling hills of Nutty Acres, as Banjo's assistance was required in vacuuming up a patch of coconuts and bringing them back to a giant suction machine (for a good reason, I'm sure). I had a large vacuum truck to drive, though as I was shown earlier by the developers, I could also build a hovering plane with a winch and simply yank the suction machine out of the ground and bring it straight over to the coconuts themselves. I could've also grabbed coconuts one at a time by hand, but where's the fun in that?

I have to say it looks interesting though I'm not a huge fan of the art style. I'm sure there will be more platforming in the game but this vehicle stuff does appear to be a significant portion of the game. Also comes out in November so it looks like this holiday season will be another expensive one.

They removed all of Kazooie's moves.

Fucking A. The game was a platformer. This is a spinoff.

I loved Banjo-Kazooie to an almost disturbing degree. I thought it took the Mario 64 formula, sanded off all the rough bits, and polished it to a shine, the only flaws showing up in the trivia hell and the too-difficult final fight.

I don't know what the hell this is though. It's as if they read my mind and constructed the game I'd like the least. The hated ship building of Kingdom Hearts combined with the aimless driving around of Mass Effect? Ugh.

Where did you read this? I heard that they allowed you to customize his moves however you wanted, creating your own. Is that what you meant?

MGS will also pull back the curtain on another beloved franchise with the triumphant return of Banjo, one of Rare’s most successful characters, in “Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts.” Defying the laws of nature, a bear, a bird and a backpack team up to embark on another incredible adventure this November. MGS is breaking the rules of traditional platformer games by putting the power to invent new abilities for Banjo directly into the players’ hands. By using their ingenuity to build imaginative vehicles that can be combined with infinite variations, gamers help Banjo successfully complete missions through multiple terrains. Through exploration, discovering hidden secrets and solving puzzles to win rewards, players will continually find increasing ways to customize and improve their contraptions, creating an unprecedented level of user-generated content and emergent play for a 3-D adventure game.
Bolded the part that I figured meant, you can create abilities for him customizable, similar to the vehicles you can make custom. Did I misinterpret that?

I'll find the Kazooie retardation in a few minutes, but I think that quote references the fact that the vehicles are how you improve Banjo's arsenal.

For a series build on teamwork between B&K, this is a stupid design decision.

That quote is talking about creating new vehicles to give Banjo new abilities, yes.

Well yes, you combine their quotes together and you get that B&K can jump, punch and run at normal speeds, and everything else is vehicle based.

Or basically, the "get out of your cockpit only to grab items on ledges/swap vehicles" system.

Simply put, they are really going to have to wow me to get me to care, especially since I don't care in the least about taking my custom made vehicles to multiplayer games.

*insert Picard wtf is this shit picture*

I'm a looooong term Rare/Ultimate fan, or was. Since Nintendo sold them to Microsoft their games have generally nosedived. My son enjoyed Viva Pinata but everything else has been pants.

WTF happened to the dev that produced Goldeneye and my 2nd favourite bloody game ever, Blast Corps? I would sacrifice other peoples children and club baby seals for a year for a true current gen sequel to Blast Corps.

edit: okay a small bit of amusement at the 8bit mario he encounters at 1:46 that even seems to have a sampled Mario saying "Hey!"

Here's another, better video:

Banjo-Kazooie: Hot New Bird On Bear Action

Rare definitely has sucked lately so the game may or may not be terrible, but I'd rather see them try a new idea than rehash the N64 game.
