Good new "old school" rpg's?

I've browsed through several pages of this forum, and not found exactly what I'm looking for. Essentially I'm looking for any "new" (within the last year or so maybe) games that bring back the feel of the old Wizardry games, or even Baldur's Gate, etc. I realize that almost all the games nowadays tend towards real time, which is ok in its place, but I miss those old turn-based games. I started playing Witcher, and really like it, but I'm probably going to wait and buy the newer, fixed version. I played Spellforce: Earth Awakening and finished that pretty quick, and overall wasn't super impressed. I loved the old Master of Magic, Fantasy General, even Warlords (although I'd classify those as more strategy games).

So are there any decent rpg games out there that are at least close to turn-based? I'm talking Might and Magic (not the stupid ass Heroes of M&M ones, hated those), Wizardry, Bard's Tale, etc. where you had a party of characters, they leveled up and you got to assign attribute points, etc. You could pick their classes, assign which order they marched in, etc. I know that probably sounds boring to a lot of people, and maybe I'd hate it if it was exactly like those old games, but man I miss those. Even games that let you have a "party" nowadays typically make you pick from pre-made henchmen that you find throughout the game, which is annoying as well unless they have really good side-quests and interaction associated with them.

I've played NWN1 & 2, Dungeon Siege 1 & 2, Oblivion et. al, and the ones mentioned above. I can't think of any other recent ones that would qualify. None of those games really did it for me, although I did enjoy them to some extent. Oh, and in general I'm looking for something pc-based, although if it were new and really good, I do have both a 360 and PS3. Games like this typically are found on the pc though, and I prefer to play them there if I can. And while obviously I could go back and play an old one, I do appreciate advances in graphics and gameplay that come about due to new technology, and I'm sure I'd tire of games I played already pretty quickly anyway.

Any suggestions, or am I pretty much screwed? Thanks in advance.

Is there even a working copy of Warlords anywhere? I remember playing that game on my friends old Apple back 15 or so years ago and thinking it was the greatest thing since sliced bread.

In regards to what's out there, I wish I had more to add to this thread. I know I'm going ot be watching it and hoping that something strikes my interest (or someone shows up with a link to Warlords)

Nothing really came out the last year in the turn based genre for the PC but

Battle of Wesnoth
Styrateg
Silent Storm
Arcanum

These stand the test of time and are awesome.

I was actually going to suggest Wizardry 8 if you liked turn based, but then realized you already played it them.

Warlords II was the best computer game ever made. You can still buy copies for Mac (System 7.x) and PC (Windows 95), but then you also have to procure an old Mac or PC running those systems. If you're really dedicated, I'm sure you can cobble together a Warlords-capable Mac for a hundred bucks or so.

Oh wait Fantasy Wars! Loved loved that game.

Human Orc and Elves campaign, can start out as either Human or Orc beat one of them and Elves become unlockable. All different campaigns played a good 80 hours on this game. It has some flaws but overall well worth the time.

If you have a DS, you may want to tryout Etrian Odyssey(US name) 1 & 2. Excellent old school feel, particularly Wizardry.

old turn-based games
While old & ugly , "Chaos Gate" was incredibly good & immersive Warhammer game.
There were no levels/points/skills but having to manage 3 Squads (select weapons) was enough.
Having to deal with action points, ambushes, etc etc, rocked.

They've made a DS/PSP version i think... too bad nothing for PC.
I hated Dawn of War... 40K is not an RTS damnit ! its Turn per Turn Strategy...

Sure is and yes it is fun. Amazon.com: Fantasy Wars: Windows: Software can grab it there if you don't want to pirate it.

What that vid doesn't show is sometimes you zoom in on battles and can see the actualy squads of 10 or whatever battle it out. Also hilarious when the hero class runs over the 10 or so lowly goblins. Warning though the game gets really hard after a few missions.
