+6 Internets | [DS] FFT:A2 It's out! Picked it up today. Only got to play a few minutes but the storyline seems a little more light hearted. There was some sort of 3 questions thing ALA Animal Crossing at the start of the game, not sure what affect it has on gameplay. Judges are back so if you weren't a fan of them, you probably won't like them this time around, though you receive Law Bonus items for not violating any laws. Not sure what the penalties are, haven't broken any laws yet. Using the Stylus feels a little clumsy. D-Pad seems reversed too, like Luminous Arc, I think, at least. It's been a while since I played a srpg on my ds. Looks like there's only local wireless mp, kind of poopy in this day and age. |

| There are no penalties for breaking the laws this time, just benefits for following them. It's a favorable evolution of FFTA and I'd recommend it to anyone for their FFT fix, but it still doesn't reach the brilliance of the original PlayStation game. |

+9 Internets | Well thank god. The penalties were just retarded, always said if I want an entire party of white mages I should be able to do it.

| I never understood why people complained about Laws in FFTA as though they were of any significant detriment. I never got imprisoned or found a battle too hard/not doable due to a law for a battle in that game and I enjoyed it well enough. Picked this up earlier today, I'm also playing Etrian Odyssey 2 atm though so I'll mess with it when I am done that one (which is really an excellent sequel). |

Was really lame when you couldn't use Swords or Black magic. That left my black mage and my main guys useless, that is lame lame lame.

+6 Internets | During combat set-up, you get to pick a clan privilege, basically a minor buff for your entire team. If you break the judge rules, you'll lose the buff. Also if you break the rules, you won't be able to use resurrect spells until the battle is over, so if a guy gets KO'd they'll be done for the duration of the battle. And if you break the law you won't get the bonus item. Did a few quests and the gameflow seems really bogged down. I thought it might have just been because I was doing tutorial missions but even regular ones seem unnecessarily slow. Last edited by Zarcath : 06-25-2008 at 04:42 PM. |

+4 Internets | I think the idea of the laws was to make the fights less repetitive, but since it was a punishment system, it made them tedious. Turning it into a reward system probably alleviate some of the pressure, unless the rewards are too good...

| This game worth buying? I thought FFT:A was kinda ok but the cute childish version of final fantasy is something I very much hate. Is it too much to ask to have a nintendo game that isn't made for retarded children? I'm sure most young boys prefer cool looking and even violent heroes, not lame shitty moogles with fluffy pom pom's and gay catchphrases. KUPO! Fuck you nintendo, I can only dream of flying around an awesome adult version of a charizard in a 3D RPG, burning scores of helpless bulbasuars.

They seemed to have added a lot more mechanics for min/maxers without making it too obnoxious. I couldn't give a recommendation to buy it yet, still in the first area. Right now I'm a little turned off by how long it takes to do anything. Battles seem way too drawn out, it's not something you can pick up and do in 5 or even 10 minutes. Maybe it'll go faster once I get some levels but right now it seems god awfully slow. | |

I really want to start FFTA2, but I know if I start, I'll get sucked into this game and let EO2 gather dust and possibly never to return. Not that I think this is a better game atm. (No opinion yet since I haven't even finished that first FFTA2 battle yet)

+2 Internets | I played FFTA2 at lunch yesterday. I only got 45 minutes in and so far it's pretty meh. They made the law system much less punishing. I prefer FFT's job system over the FFTA system (you learn spells by equipping items for a certain amount of battles.) So far they copy and pasted the FFTA story. It's more standard JRPG bullshit. Some preteen signs his name on a book and is whisked away to Ivalice and suddenly cares more about fighting chickens than he does about getting home. I'm playing it on Hard and the battles have both been impossible to lose but hopefully that will change. I'm hoping for a Dorter Trade City shortly. 2 shotting everything even on hard is kind of a bummer. |

+6 Internets | Game is slowly (pun intended) starting to piss me off. Every action has like a 2-3 second "buffer", even NPC actions have a buffer, when it's their turn they take about 3 seconds before they start moving, I guess to give the illusion of them "considering" what to do. and when they do attacks there's seconds added on, I guess so you can read what actions they're performing and on who? I don't remember FFTA being this slow and there's no option to speed it up. There's no way to surrender or restart a level either. The only escape options you have in battle is quick save and return to title (where you then resume from your last save). Seems shitty, because my main char died and I wanted to restart. |
