We're talking about the door where the spikes come down, right? That's the only door in Karateka I can think of.

You just have to move veeeeery slowly towards the door. At a certain point the spikes come down and barely miss you. The gate will slowly rise and while it's rising you then have to go through it before it gets back to the top and resets, or it'll come down on your ass again.

Hm. Damn, in my copy I don't remember the door going back up...I thought if I didn't make it under it I was stuck for some reason.

No wait, I know I'm not crazy. That door started going down when you started the level and you had to get to it in time. What you are describing sounds like something I remember from Prince of Persia.

It didn't go down til I got close in my version (Apple computer, Bayard elementary school, Wilmington Delaware ).

[edit] Here you go. It's the C64 version, but it was the same in the Apple. First 45 or so seconds. And my memory was pretty close.

I've never even heard of that. :0 Reminds me of Maniac Mansion though. Maniac Mansion wasn't particularly hard but I was like 8 or 9 when it came out on the NES, and I couldn't ever figure it out. It didn't have ninja's/dinosaurs/guns/tanookies so I was kind of biased against it from the start at the time anyway.

Anyway, I recently replayed this fan made recreation of Maniac Mansion and beat it fairly easy using only a couple pointers from walkthroughs. That's a really faithful recreation of it for anyone who liked that game and doesn't want to DOS emulate it to play it again. ~

EDIT: Lol, they apparantly recreated or made a sequel to the game you were talking about also.

out of curiosity.. has anybody else actually fathomed the will to finish Mario is Missing?

I've been convinced that im probably one of the few that actually sat through and completely finished that game.

I've beaten it. I decided to beat all the Mario games that existed in a row, and this game nearly stopped me.

My brother and I beat that when we were kids. I actually don't remember much of it, just that we both really enjoyed it. Was it an unusually hard and/or bad game?

I might have to find a rom for it.

I lied. I don't think I ever beat this game despite spending a good chunk of time with it.

Is there any way to actually beat that game though? Most games around that time had no ending, just a point where the game stopped working.

TMNT - the van shit annoyed me for a while, then it was the sewer jump bullshit, then some other nonsense, then finally getting to Shredder and him turning me into a pet turtle after usually a couple times through the game after dealing with its "quirks". I said "fuck it".

Ninja Gaiden - my stepfather and I used to take turns on some games. You die, you hand it off to the other guy. We got all the way to the last stage, and I managed to get to the final boss after we'd spent hours of aggravation getting there. I died, and we had to start all over from the earlier level. He got up, turned it off, and took the game back to the rental place right there. We never spoke about it again lol.

Correct me if I am wrong, but didnt the last boss in Ninja Gaiden transform like 3 different times at the end?
