Terminator 2: Judgment Day on the Game Boy comes to mind. Their is this little side mission where you're basically looking at a circuit board. Once it starts, you have 30 seconds before 4 electrical currents are passed through the board, 4 on the bottom, 4 at the top. Each current will have to pass to the correct corresponding end, 1 on the bottom will have to get to 1 at the top, 2 to 2, etc.

The wires in the board have numerous breaks in them and have to be repaired correctly. You just can't repair a connection because you have to make sure that path will make it so that when the circuits fire, that current from #1 on the bottom is going to hit #1 at the top.

I remember this BEING very difficult for numerous reasons. One, the time limit made it frantic and your nerves would often get the best of you. Two, because it was like a maze, you had to follow every line along its path to make sure you had chosen correctly. 3, because of the small screen on the Game Boy, you had to squint and often trace a patch multiple times to make sure it was good.

for anyone here who played super ghouls and ghosts as kid or young adult, there is no way you beat that game. there is absolutely no way. if anyone ever in the history of the world said they beat that game in their prime, they're lying.

cheats, k. emu, k. even speedrun practicing 8h/d, maybe. but normal snes play? no. it doesn't get beaten. it beats you. over and over. and over.

SERIOUSLY... what the fuck was up with that game. I came back to it several times and never could progress even a little bit. I even read the fucking manual to try and figure it out but it didn't do a damn bit of good.

Damn, you guys are good. That was definitely it. I got into it a little bit after spending a ridiculous amount of time, but didn't get too far. I was pretty young at the time and Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers was too awesome to put down for slow puzzles.

Also, nobody else played Pinball Quest?

Awesome games indeed. Really don't recall Dejavu much but I do recall loving it so I will have to trust my gut on this one.

rofl at Battletoads not being 1. The rest of those games pale in comparison to just the bike levels.

As for Contra while I don't think I EVER played it single player, if my cousin and I did a little uuddlrlrabselectstart action I dont think their was a time we didn't beat the game. I do remember more than one instance of our parents having to break up fights over who got the spread gun and who got the flame thrower/laser weapon.

Goonies II is being noted by multiple people? I think I'm going crazy, I beat that game on a weekend rental on my first attempt. And just to be sure I booted it up last night and had my first Goonie rescued in 5 minutes.

Anyway talk of street fighter has reminded me of one:

The best games were fun to play, but impossible to finish. The number of hours I used to play games as a little kid I'd never finish on the ZX Spectrum & Atari ST are ridiculous... Metrocross, Xenon I & II, Solomon's Key(ughn).

Yes, Ghosts 'n Goblins was impossible. TMNT 1 was though, but doable imo.

Being one who's beaten Goonies II, it's not that it was that hard of a game; it was just big enough, with next to no direction on where to find the different things to progress through the game; and thus had you having to use your fist and hammer on like every wall...hitting a bystander with your fist 5 times to get the candle; etc. It really was possible to roam around lost for quite some time.

Goonies II was awesome, but definitely not really all that hard, other than learning the map.

Here's one I didn't make it through either.

I lost my patience with it in the final castle.

Wiz 7 was awesome but if you could take the seven horrors the final fight was a big letdown. I recall getting horridly lost in the mountains.

I played the entire series I believe. Text mode ftw.
