| Probably a bunch of new copies that'll be up on ebay for cheap due to people buying the PS3 for a blu-ray player or those who have no interest in the MGS series. I'd bet the $100 giftcard deal probably pushed a bunch of people on the fence as well.

| Should I avoid this game if I've never played a single Metal Gear title before? I'd probably be willling to give it a shot if the gameplay is excellent, but sitting through massive cutscenes about things that I have absolutely no connection to doesn't sound like much fun. |

| I dunno, MGS1 was pretty fun if you tried to gun through everyone. Definitely worth one full run through playing like that if you never did it. Same as Deus Ex, do one run through laser swording everyone and no stealth or hacking, on hard or realistic. Last edited by Mist : 06-12-2008 at 08:01 PM. |

| I'll probably restart at a lower difficulty... started playing on the default difficulty, got into act 1 died a half dozen times being forced some down some linear path and got frustrated and quit. Nothing really makes sense either since the last MGS I played was for PS1 I think, and I barely remember that. |

| Just got done with act 1 - The animation in this game is fluid as hell. Really liking the story so far. The voice acting is great. And Akiba ... oh you rascally soundral. Shitting your pants like that. Silly silly ![]() I remember punching / melee in MGS2 being a lot more fluid. Two punches kick. They really dont seem to have that. The knife seems very slow, but the stun feature is great. I think my only complaint is a lack of a tutorial level to get me to remember the actions of the controls. The first few combat scenes I felt like I really wasnt in control. Still getting used to sneaking and poking your head around the corner. I started with the default diffeculty. Attention to detail is second to none. The i-pod is pure money. Question - Is there not a way to completely hide in a trash bin? I tried holding X and other things but my head still sticks out.

| Lenas, I figured as much, which is why I've been stun-killing instead of actual killing. I just don't have something to compare it to, was curious if people who are kill-killing are getting the same items I am. Ham, in his interviews, the voice actor, David Hayter, was saying that it was purposeful that he put on a very gruff, throaty voice. It sounds almost as if he's a parody of his own character (arguably, Hayter has been doing so since MGS2), but the idea was that Snake is at the end of his life, and things as simple as speaking have become grueling tasks. I miss Solid Snake as he used to be. It's heartwrenching to see him all shriveled up like that.. Solid Snake as a young soldier extraordinaire in MGS1 is bound to the time in your life that you originally played or observed the game, or at least the frame of mind that you put yourself in while playing. I imagine Kojima wanted to recreate the same kind of attachment people have to famous actors who are immortalized and recognizable for their work in their younger years, but along with their admirers, are getting old and eventually dying. People find these connections in all kinds of different things - actors, pets, cities, and now fictional video game characters. Last edited by wild_whiskey : 06-13-2008 at 02:15 AM. |

+23 Internets | I haven't gotten to a boss yet. Only played a bit last night. Are the bosses like MGS3 where they have life and endurance bars and "stun killing" is bringing down the endurance bar? Or is it different in 4? |
