[360] XNA Launcher & Free Community Games

Pretty good news for us xbox 360 owners! Free community games that can be downloaded with the XNA launcher.

I can only imagine the free content that's going to come down the community pipe line. Isn't this what we've always wanted? I haven't played any of the games yet, but there's about 6 or so up there to download right now.

"Isn't this what we've always wanted?"

Probably depends on how good or bad the free games turn out to be.

Yea, I'm sure there's going to be a lot of crap out there released. But I'm sure there will also be some gems released as well.

They said they're gonna have a rating system in place too, so that should help sift through the crap.

now I'm actually motivated to fix the RPG I've been working on to support the Xbox360... will have to refactor a huge chunk of shit I've written though but I guess it's better now then later.

Here's a little tidbit on it from xbox.com

Quote:
A special preview of a subset of Community Games will made available on February 20, after the GDC keynote announcements. Be sure to check out these select Community Games, available for download from 11:00 A.M. PST on February 20 until 12:00 A.M. PST on February 24:

Little Gamers: This game is a 2-D high-definition action side-scroller based on the famous webcomic Little Gamers (little-gamers.com).

ProximityHD: Proximity takes the essence of strategy games—battles for control of territory and armies—and distills it down to a simple, easy to understand set of rules that makes the genre more accessible to casual players than ever before.

Rocketball: A neighborhood game of dodgeball explodes onto the street with fast paced multi-player action, power-ups galore, and Rocketball strikes that will tear your opponents apart.

TriLinea: TriLinea is a puzzle game that mixes fast paced action with strategy.

The Dishwasher: Dead Samurai: The Dishwasher is an intense 2-D action platforming game with a unique, highly stylized look and fast and fluid action. The game's hero is a lowly dishwasher (the occupation, not the appliance) who has lost everything, including his heart, at the hands of the deceptive and evil cyborg movement and is seeking revenge.

JellyCar: JellyCar puts you behind the wheel of a squishy car driving through squishy worlds, trying to reach the exit.

Culture: Culture is a set of beautifully inviting games based on creative uses of flowers to combat weeds, paint-by-numbers, and breed new varieties.

So they all have time limits?

Can't stand that.

Their all pretty cool, although some of these seem a bit beyond "amature community" games, like the ninja one "The Dishwasher", which plays basically like a 2D DMC game.

ProximityHD is crazy addicting, and alot more fun that it first seemed

Trilinea I didnt really get, too confusing and I didnt feel like learning it.

Little gamers is your typical side scrolling shooter which is alright, but nothing new.

The culture game didnt work at all, so dunno whats up with that.

Jellycar is a cool concept but its only 1 really really short level. This one you could tell was probably made by 1 guy instead of a team like the others.

Overall pretty good stuff, but I'm wondering just how the concept as a whole will work.
