Well considering that there's already been a few patches - a lot apparently.

This is just another nail in the coffin for PC gaming for me. The patching, the quality control, and the copy-protection problems in PC gaming has just completely turned me off from ever going back to it.

Unless some holy-shit PC exclusive comes along I'll never touch PC gaming again outside of MMOs now. Obviously one in the future is Starcraft 2, but I don't see anything else on the horizon for me. I probably won't even touch a Forgotten Realms game on the PC at this point.

I've completely lost faith in PC developers, outside of Blizzard, to deliver a quality product that has an acceptable level of polish and non-bullshit.

You pretty much summed up my feelings about PC gaming. I ran into a bit of extra money recently and was going to upgrade my PC to something more modern (Mine was great 3 years ago, right before Doom 3 / HL2), but what's the point? To convert .divx files to .wma for my Zune faster? WAR & WC3 play on my PC fine and those are the only games I can see myself playing in the foreseeable future.

And fuck not being able to play PS3 & PC together. Wanted to play with a buddy; He has the PC version since he has a beast of a PC, whereas I wanted the PS3 version since my comp is kinda shitty (3600+, 1gig Ram, 6800 GT Ultra).

Ditto. Except I think the MMO is the most boring genre ever, with EQ (in its prime) as the exception.

I don't think you're quite being fair here. Valve, Relic, Infinity Ward, Bioware, all make fantastic PC products (bioware, assuming Dragon's Age remains PC only). You can also find a good release every now and then, like World in Conflict or the Witcher.

And despite its flaws, UT3 on PC will be pretty sick once the Make Something Unreal contest is over.

Is Make Something Unreal a user-created content program of sorts? If so, I don't think you're quite seeing Sean's point. You're saying a game will be 'sick' once USERS make it sick? I don't know...I'd prefer a dev to make a good game without relying on consumers to pay them money, and then create passable content.

User-created content, though, IS awesome, and it's the only edge I think PC gaming has over consoles at the moment. So I'll agree with you there. And I'll preempt graphics whores here: I don't care about the disparity between consoles and PC's regarding graphical prowess. And I personally don't think the difference is that big yet.

Make Something Unreal is a contest put on by Nvidia, for a bunch of different categories. As a result you'll see a ton of extremely high quality models/maps/vehicles, and hopefully a few innovative mods as a result. But his point was about patching/quality control, and overall just good games for PC. My point was there are still several companies putting over top notch PC games, as well as the occasional just good games like NWN2 Mask of the Betrayer, or World in Conflict. Mod content isn't the only advantage PC games have. but games like oblivion show it still should be considered in the PC/Console debate.

Bugs, UI, lacking basic features in many area's, even the netcode seems a step backwards from UT2kx
Do these not apply to the PS3 version?

Not in my experience. I've only had it for a week but I haven't witnessed any bugs, the UI is fine and I've had solid connectivity as well online.

UT3's UI just uses a ton of sub menu's, which are frankly just inefficient and sloppy. On top of that, a lot of customizable graphics options aren't available in game to change (they have 2 5 step slider profiles in game, that's about it.) You wanna make some in depth changes, you need to edit an INI with a notepad.

They patched the issue where if you weren't logged in online to Gamespy, the game would forget your settings (yes, keybinds and all, how the fuck did that pass Q&A?)

The UI problem isn't unique to UT3. The simple act of getting shit done with today's software is taking more and more time, and becoming less and less efficient. You really fucking wonder how fucking hard it is to get a menu system right.

FFS, even in MMO's you need to do a ton of clicking/navigating just to login to the fucking game. What the flying fuck is going on? Click the game icon, get one fucking menu with a drop down window to pick your character, saved passwords, and click to login. There should be nothing fucking more (Anarchy online did this flawlessly.)

Sometimes this shit just makes me want to cry.

Those problems you just voiced are the exact reasons I started using (and haven't looked back, except to play TF2!) OS X over Windows.

That game did a lot right. It's a shame that its launch was so completely abysmal.

I just tried this out while playing offline in the campaign, and it's kick ass. The AI is fucking unbelievable sometimes, and I'm playing on normal difficulty.

Yah, the AI is good, but it does do a lot of meta-gaming at the higher end. Shit like pecking you off with the pistol when you are under ~20% life (but not if you are above.)

Rented this over the holidays and came away very impressed. UT 3 runs very, very well on the PS3 and looks terrific. I got tired of the way the characters looked pretty quickly as I feel like I've seen those same bodies before in some other game (Marcus Fenix, is that you??) but that's more a complaint of the engine than anything else.

Unfortunately (and just as personal preference so take it with a grain of salt) I dont like the vehicle combat as much as I like it in Warhawk and I dont like the "on foot" parts as well as I like it in Call of Duty 4. Which leaves UT3 somewhere in the middle of the road as well executed but not in the "must purchase" category.
