+21 Internets | Best/Favourite Stories in a Game? Stole this from the escapist boards but it was too good not to. Anyways I would have to go with: God of War/Devil May Cry for action games(Mark of Kri also rocked). BioShock for FPS(Escape from Butcher Bay very close second) In relection I decided to change from FF VII to Xenogears...It really was more bad ass. What made up my mind was the little things I didn't think about. Fallout for obvious reasons. Haven't played Mass Effect so no idea. This is all based on story alone gameplay and all that other stuff should not apply. Prolly think of better ones and this thread progresses but thats off the top of my head.

+17 Internets | Xenogears. There hasn't been a game that's comparable yet story-wise and I have a fear that nothing ever will compare to how awesome it is. Btw, the only thing "sad" about FF7 was Cloud not having crazy monkey sex with Tifa while she was constantly throwing herself at him. Sure, I cried when Aeris died, but they were tears of joy! |

+5 Internets | Now that's a difficult question... Damn... many games have a great synopsis, but because of the imperatives of gameplay they tend to have unbalanced, dilluted or downright chaotic stories. Need... To think... More... EDIT: There is a story in Ocarina of Time? I only remember "Sad funny looking creatures need help? Here you go! But give me a hand I have a princess to save or something".

yeah that was my problem...what helps though is if you take all the cut scenes and dialog and picture it as one big book/movie...would you read/watch it anyhow. Personaly I find my self sometimes just going back and watching the cut scenes in DMC 3...don't even play the game unless I wanna see the after boss fight scenes.

| Agreed We are just talking about the story here. Yeah the second disk was rushed game play wise, but the story was still solid. Zelda's are also pretty good and most of the FF's are good, but a little convoluted. Deus Ex and Bioshock are very good for shooter titles.

| Final Fantasy 3 - I still hate Kefka. Max Paine - Ok, very simplistic cop/coverup story overall. But the film noir delivery is spectacular. KOTOR - I always wondered what it would have been like to be 20'ish and watching Empire Strikes Back when the "I am your father" line gets tossed out. KOTOR's plot twist was as close as I think I'll ever get. |

+5 Internets | Waitwaitwaitwait... I can agree that Zelda, or Metroid for that matter, tell its tale using pure video game story telling tools: no cut scenes, no dialogue, just a character you control doing things in a world you explore. But still, the great story of Link rescuing the princess and finding the boomrang on the way is not exactly amazing.

+2 Internets | Personnaly, for FPS, it would be Doom3. The game itself might not have been that amazing, but I did enjoy the story and thought it was well written. Other than that : Fallout For adventure games : Prisoner of Ice , and Shadow of the Comet
