+69 Internets | The Return of FASA Almost.. Gamasutra - Weisman Licenses MechWarrior, Shadowrun, Crimson Skies Rights From Microsoft Cliffnotes. It would appear that Jordan Weisman, founder of FASA and Wiz Kidz has bought back the full title list previously held by Microsoft. His new company, Smith & Tinker is looking to develop on the old franchises but any more details are not forthcoming. Looks like Shadowrun bombed enough for Microsoft to finally give up. Smith & Tinker - Reinventing Play for the Connected Generation Website is a little meh but heres hoping that Mechwarrior 5 is already in the works. In the meantime I'll just plug Mechwarrior:Living Legends some more. |

+6 Internets | It is truly shocking how Microsoft managed to mismanage this selection of Intellectual Property. Battletech / Mechwarrior went from an extremely prolific computer gaming franchise that dated back to the C64/Amiga era to an utter clusterfuck disaster of an arcade game with their second Microsoft release. M$ did a great job with Crimson Skies and it was even one of the most successful titles of the early Xbox Live service on the original Xbox and then they just dropped the ball... everyone expected some gangbusters sequel and one never happened. And my beloved Shadowrun... So much promise there and so many things could be done with that IP that the mind boggles at what they ended up using it for and how completely they failed at the effort. I still hope for a Shadowrun MMO with the entirety of Seattle as an adventure setting... Stuffer Shacks, roaming go-gangers, PVP Combat Brawl teams, Instanced adventures to extract people, data, etc out of corporate enclaves. The Renraku Arcology as the first expansion of the game... *sigh* |
