| Which 360, HDTV, cables etc. Right. I've been waiting for this for a very long time - i've decided i'm buying a HDTV + xbox 360 + games. I don't really know anything about cables and such, I remember reading that you need an xbox elite for HDMI which gives you HD on an HD tv. So basically this is what I want to buy for myself for christmas: - An LCD/Plasma (no dlp bullshit) tv, around 32->40" screen, max cost around 1300 dollars. Has to be nice looking.. Ill pay a premium for the looks. Was thinking some kind of Samsung - they look really nice. - An xbox360, that will do the HD on the TV + is the most quiet one.. I HATE the vacuum sound. Any kind of mod to make it more quiet I will buy. - Games * Guitar Hero 2 + 3 * Gears of War * Anything else that is an absolute classic. My last console was an xbox1, so it's time to get really involved once again. Total budget is about $2000. Whatever is left over, i'll probably throw into a new hi-fi. Need avice on games, tv and which xbox. cheers. |

| Which TV is a thread in itself, and is explained in great detail in other threads in general. I'd also check out AVS forums. A normal 360 runs HD just fine with components. I've had an XBOX 360 for a year, and I've only bought 6 games for it. The only ones I played with any frequency were GoW, Dead Rising, Bioshock, and Guitar Hero. It was my first console since Super Nintendo, so I was in the same boat as you. |

| Here's the deal, if the tv you buy is 720p you'll be fine with the cables in the box. If it's a 1080p, depends - some tv's accept 1080p trough component, some do not. In theory hdmi offers better image quality than component, in practice some tv's have different quality inputs so the hdmi might actually look worse. Also, all 360's are too loud. If you are lucky you might get one slightly less noisy unit but never a more silent one. As for games, depends what you enjoy the most. I'd heartily recommend gears, viva piņata, forza 2/pgr4 and mass effect but as the catalogue is starting to get wide you won't see unanymous lists: you might want to narrow what kind of stuff you like. |

+17 Internets | This is true and it's entirely due to the disc drives at this point. My X360 runs fairly silent at the dashboard with no disc spinning up. However, when any disc spins up it's like a fucking jet engine. The X360s house some of the loudest disc drives that I have ever encountered and it's downright obnoxious. |

| Honestly, when it comes to cables i'm completely clueless. My last console used SCART. I didn't think there was anything better than that ![]() I basically just want to buy the xbox 'classics', i'm definately getting BioShock - that's a good shout. The thing is, I was thinking of putting the TV in my bedroom and using the xbox to stream divx - but if it's really THAT loud.. ugh. What's the best Xbox equiv of Gran Tourismo? ![]() Edit- I'm a silence freak by the way. My computers are all low rpm fans or fanless. I cannot handle buzzing or anything like that - but I really want to get an xbox! |

+17 Internets | It won't really make any noise if you're streaming movies/tv shows/ect. It's only when you're playing games and thus the disc drive is spinning up. It is not at all fan noise. It's DVD Drive noise. |

| Best flat panel for your budget: Samsung LN-T4061F 40" LCD 10,000:1 Contrast 1080p for ~1300 (go to pricegrabber). You will need an HDMI cable, you will also need a 2nd HDMI cable if you have an HD DVR. Do not waste your leftover $ on a shitty hi-fi. Save money and get the new pioneer 1017.. you won't regret it. edit: model # for the pioneer is 1017TXV-K if you're interested. Last edited by Dennadyne : 12-07-2007 at 01:53 PM. |

| 0 kills, 0 alerts | PS, almost every 360 has an HDMI port now. I bought an Arcade version ($279, cheapest you can get) and they all come with one. The only way you aren't going to have HDMI at this point is if you buy a used 360 pretty much.

| Going to get the Samsung, cheers for the advice. How much should I budget for the hi-fi, do you think? It'll have to wait till January or February to spend anything considerable, but I am really into my music - so i'll take any advice you have for me.. |

You can get a respectable 2.1 setup for about $1k (F-2 + Sub-10/12 + Pioneer 1017) and fill out your 5.1 later on when you have the scratch for it. edit: the receiver is around $375, give or take. Last edited by Dennadyne : 12-07-2007 at 02:28 PM. | |
