really it feels (and looks like) what city of villains should've been to a greater extent. The traveling in this game and the upgrade system is something CoH should've been thinking about

Imo, travel is missing something huge - the ability to move around like Spider-man. The whip-fist would be fucking perfect for it. It's pretty much like the symbiote suit.

I hope if they expand on this IP more they really expand the power range. There's some really obvious things left out like a whirlwind attack with the blades.

I may have missed it but it would sure make some things a bit simpler.
I fully expected, but still hated, the part where you lose your powers. Why must so many games do this?

Luckily, it only lasts a few missions and then you're back to kicking ass.

This pisses me off also.

Along with games trying to incorporate gameplay elemenents that are done many times beter in games of the actual genre.

For example, I played & enjoyed crysis up until the part where I had to pilot the space ship. If I want to fly a spaceship which handles like a pregnant cow, there are plenty of games to do that.

Needless to say I lost interest in the game & never looked back beyond that.

Yeah, I'm at a similar stopping point with Gears of War 2 right now.

That game is good enough at is it is, you don't need to give me "variety" by making me fumble with a poorly-controlling vehicle.

At least it isn't the Mako.

While I completely agree with you about the spaceship part, you should really reconsider. I fucking hated flying the ship, but it was worth seeing the end of the game. The last boss is pretty badass, and it makes the alien shit worth fighting through.

Very true. The ending is pretty climatic. It's definitely worth finishing the game. The flying part is pretty short anyway.

This thread is full of all kinds of truth.

Completely agree that some things were missed - but as the title has garnered fairly decent reviews I see this as an IP that has legs. In general - I love the travel and powers. The story was bit weak, but I kind of expected that. But above all I just love moving around the city and wreaking havok. I can't remember a game that provided as much freedom of movement and god like powers (would compare powers to God of War I guess). But the only game I remember that allowed this kind of speed of movement I can recall was CoH - and I swear thats the only reason I played that game as long as I did.

If they can take the good things from this game and build on them - I think this could see long term success as a franchise.

Er, is the spaceship in the Crysis expac or something? It's been awhile, but I don't recall flying a spaceship in Crysis.

You don't fly a spaceship in either Crysis or Warhead. You fly one of the carrier jets, but not a spaceship.

tldr:

360 - game locked at 30fps, 1120 by 640 no slowdown, screen tearing, no super shadows on debris (http://www3.telus.net/public/dhwag/Prototype360.jpg)

PS3 - 1120 by 640 screen tearing, some slowdown when action gets busy, but has super shadows on debris (http://www3.telus.net/public/dhwag/PrototypePS3.jpg)

PC - The only of the platforms to render at HD resolutions and beyond, but no spiffy super shadows.

Haven't tried Ambient Occlusion with this game yet to see if it works, I assume though that Nvidia will add it in the next driver version, or the developers could add it in via a patch? I dunno. Basically that's what you are seeing in the PS3 version, I think AO only started working in the last Nvidia drivers, I don't use it much because it does have some serious performance hits depending on the game.

So got this last night, been playing it for awhile now. Not too far into it I don't think. I enjoy the hell out of it. It reminds me of the new Wolverine but with the GTA free roam. I prefer this over Infamous, but then again I tend to favor the gorier, more violent games.

I'm pretty sure I'm over half way through the game, but I just want to make sure - there is no block or counter in game right? Just the dive roll?

The shield form blocks.

I think I spent half the game with the shield toggled off because of the annoying 'feature' that deactivates your powers after every cutscene.
