STREET FIGHTER 4!!!!

Holy shit, I thought I would never see this day. This is one of the happiest moments ever. As a fighting game fan I don't know what to say, and I can only harbor doubts as if it will be some blasphemy like a new 3d street fighter or other thing. Please please capcom, dont let us down.

Street Fighter IV Announced news from 1UP.com

Quote:
As Capcom's media event gets started overseas, the company has already dropped one spectacularly major, but long awaited, announcement by revealing Street Fighter IV is currently in development. Capcom's community website has been counting down for over a week now, as gamers have speculated over what could be such a big deal.

The short teaser is nothing more than some Ryu and Ken stylized artwork of them fighting, with no word on what platforms the game is coming to or a projected release date. Clearly, Capcom is strictly teasing at this point.

Of all games, Street Fighter IV is probably worthy of such a countdown, considering Capcom released the original iteration of Street Fighter III back in 1997. A few months later came 2nd Impact: Giant Attack, which tweaked the gameplay and introduced two new characters, eventually followed up by 3rd Strike: Fight for the Future, bringing back Chun-Li and an addition four new characters, in 1999.

Unfortunately, we don't know anything more than that, and any impressions or announcements from the event are embargoed until later this week. Until then, let the speculation begin on what Capcom's bringing to the table in their latest numbered sequel in the Street Fighter series.

Games Radar - XBOX 360 news - Xbox 360 - Live report from Capcom Gamer's Day in London

Quote:
Street Fighter 4
Development has just begun and the release of the game is more than a year away. No platforms are yet confirmed - a highly stylised animated concept trailer of Ryu and Ken fighting was shown, but no game footage.

Ace Attorney: Apollo Justice
A new character and new series starring a rookie lawyer. Phoenix Wright makes an appearance but is not the lead character. Made specifically for DS.

Lost Planet (PS3)
Avaialable early next year and will include all bonus characters from the PC version and extra downloadable content from the 360 version making it the complete package. Made possible with Blu-ray. 16 player online over the PSN.

Dark Void
A new sci-fi action-adventure IP. Trailer showed third-person and air-vehicle gameplay with a character wearing a steam punk jetpack, skydiving and landing in the cockpit of a gyroscopic aircraft, and then jumping and climbing through airbase fortesses.

Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD (Xbox Live Arcade)
The game will feature a spectator mode and is scheduled for a 2008 while the team try and get zero lag for the online mode. Also features stat tracking and widescreen. Original music from Street Fighter 2 will be used, plus remixed versions of all those tunes.

Wii Love Golf
From the Everybody's Golf team comes a cutesy golf sim, that looks slightly more technical than the PlayStation versions. Players can fade or draw the ball by twisting the Wii-mote when taking a swing.

We'll have more from our man in London later.

I want everyone to take a step back and clear your mind. Think nothing but of the glory that could be Street Fighter 4..

Now. Run these words through your mind.

.....

"Wii Exclusive"

Wouldn't that just be a kick in the nuts?

It wouldn't be since I'm pretty sure they are going to go heavy into online play. I would expect the game to be for every console, but it will look fantastic on my Xbox 360.

Well I hope they bring the SF series and the genre back to it's roots. Basically aside from VF, DOA, and Tekken series this gen has all dried up. It used to be there would be 20+ different games a year in the fighting gen. You would think with the advent of online playing it would taken off again but it hasn't really imho. Hopefully the new SF game can bring the genre back to life.

I hope devs get away from Killer Instinct style combos that plague fighters now.

I think part of the problem has to do with lag/latency issues. Fighting games are notorious for requiring precision timing, down to the frame in some cases.

At least, that's what I've read... I'm usually incompetant when it comes to fighting games like these

Lag in FPS can be adjusted for, but in a fighting game, if a counter can only be executed in the first .1 second of the move, and you have a lag of > .1, it is not possible to counter the move. Combo breakers/parries etc.

According to IGN, it's for 360/PS3/Wii.

Yay.

When you only have a few frame window to pull off certain combos/counters, any lag at all can screw you. FPS games are much more forgiving when it comes to that.

Bah, late.

Street Fighter 3 is too technical of a game to be played online for anyone who isn't a newbie. When you're counting frames of animation, even 18ms of lag is going to mean the difference between a parry and a K.O.

[edit: whoops guess I'm the 3rd person to point this out]

Sreet Fighter, Tekken, etc. are not games meant to be played online. I think my game would get worse if I practiced over the internet. I honestly hope this doesn't go online, because that's just going to be watering down the craft that goes into being a true expert. If it does go online and goes heavy into it, the next generation of well-known "experts" in America are going to be bull-dogs. The way predictions work in network gaming is not going to reward anyone who plays strategically.

Also, SF3 is not by any means a disappointment. It's one of the most-loved fighting games to date and it's very hardcore.
