+6 Internets | - The SC4 stick is basically the same as the Hori EX2 stick. It uses a Hori knock-off stick, not a Sanwa JLF/JLW or a Semitsu. It is square gate. - Every stick you've most likely played Street Fighter on in the US has a round gate feel. American sticks don't have the adjustable gate on them like many Japanese varieties. What acts as a gate on US sticks is internal and round. US sticks use a square actuator. - All arcade or arcade knock-off sticks will make clicks. It's from the micro switches. American buttons have the same click as they use the same micro switches that American sticks do. Japanese buttons typically don't have an audible click as they use different switches. - A HRAP is a "Hori Real Aracade Pro." It comes with a Sanwa JLF stick already installed, but most HRAP models use Hori buttons. - In all cases, Sanwa parts are of higher quality, have better response, and are more durable. |

| I see. Thanks Alex! A friend of mine from Japan let me borrow his HRAP II when he was training me in Tekken 5. When he went back to Japan, the joystick was one of the things he let me hold on to. The stick still works perfectly well after many years. It's probably a Sanwa stick, as it feels identical to my friend's custom made with Sanwa parts, but his buttons are definitely nicer than mine. I haven't played any Street Fighter since I've been to Korea, but I assumed the American joystick gate was the "correct" one, for SF games, which makes QC and HC motions easier to execute. Then, on the flip-side, 3D fighters used a square gate because it made double-tap motions easier to do. In either case, I prefer the square gate, even though it seems to be much bigger on all sides than the circular American gate. Do you know if the PS3 HRAP is good stuff? I'll definitely be buying a stick for SF4 and will probably go for another HRAP, since the last one I used worked out so well.\ Guh, just saw that this stick is made with all Sanwa parts: Buy Virtua Stick High Grade (PS3) - Order Now! and has a very pleasing design, to boot. Looks like I missed out on its production, though. Last edited by wild_whiskey : 08-18-2008 at 10:49 PM. |

+6 Internets | Sure thing! Glad to help. The PS3 HRAP (HRAP 3) is a Sanwa JLF and Hori buttons, like most all HRAPs. There was a HRAP 2 SE which had Semitsu parts and a HRAP 2 SA which was all Sanwa parts (including buttons). Both of those were limited edition and have become fairly rare. You can count on most any other HRAP coming with a JLF and Hori buttons. One of the great things about the HRAP is that they are very easy to mod. All of the buttons are wired with quick disconnects, so you can add Sanwa buttons without any soldering. It's well worth the investment; Sanwa buttons are like an ice cream sundae made of awesome with sex on top. The gate is easily modded to an octagonal as well if you really want, but I've come to prefer square. Which gate is better for which game is a really subjective question. JLFs have two options, square--which is default--and octagonal. The octagonal makes the throw of the stick a bit longer, but doesn't affect the engage. In English, throw means how far it is possible to move the stick to any direction, engage means how far you have to move the stick before the micro switch is tripped (IE- movement is registered in the game). Since a JLF has a shorter engage than a throw regardless of what gate you use, you save movement--thus time--by not following the gate strictly. Thus which gate is better become kind of a moot point to me. That being said, since square is the default used on Japanese cabinets, it is probably better to be used to that if you're planning on playing in an arcade that uses them. I'd probably still use octagonal if I wasn't moving to China. The Virtua Stick High Grade was a pretty nice stick. I wouldn't feel too bad about missing out though. In my personal opinion, the HRAP is more comfortable to play on. There is less room for your hand on the VSHG. Plus the first run of them had a problem registering simultaneous inputs. All that being said, if you can wait until closer to the SF4 release, I'd do so. There is supposedly going to be a new arcade stick released for home consoles to coincide with the home release of SF4. It's supposedly of good quality, but there are no details as to whether it is US or Japanese parts yet. |

+6 Internets | They are out there on youtube. Unless, you mean Goken... and I dunno. I'm behind the great firewall right now, so youtube is pretty worthless for me. For everyone asking about sticks, Madcatz is releasing a line of SF4 sticks for console release. There are full arcade quality and cheaper versions. They look pretty hot right now.
