STALKER is a pretty good FPS, but it's not a RPG.
The only other games like Bloodlines and Deus Ex that I can think of would be System Shock 2 (and maybe #1, but it's very old now) and Deus Ex 2: Invisible Wars. It's not as good as Deus Ex, but not as bad as I thought.
The Thief games don't have any RPG elements either, but I think they have a similar feel.

NWN and NWN2 fit that bill VERY well. Especially NWN2, great development, voice acting and overall production. Plus, if you're lucky you'll get bored of NWN2 before you get to the end and leave with fond memories. If you're not lucky you'll see the ending and prolly hate the game.

Just try to get into the expansion or the many NWN2 mods before seeing the original campaign ending.

So... if we plan on playing should we play with the 5.04 or the 4.2 patch?

I always play it with 5.04. I'm not a big fan of the changes in 4.2.

The differences honestly aren't that huge.

Thanks for the input; I was under the assumption that the changes were massive. I guess I'll be playing with the 5.04 patch, just because it sticks as close to the original game as possible.

Tessmage wants people to THINK the changes are huge because of his massive weeping emo vagina about his TRUE PATCH, but it really isn't a big difference one way or the other.

Wesp's patches restore some shit that was in the original game that either Troika didn't have time or money to finish, or that they didn't put in the final version for whatever reason, it doesn't really ADD anything per se.

Well, as much as you or others want to hate Tessmage, I don't know or care who he is beyond the fact that he made the 5.04 patch and that I prefer it better. Last I had looked there were more than just minor changes to gameplay and game balance with Wesps.

So I know this is old but I had a couple questions.

I want to buy this on Steam. Are the bugs worked out in the Steam version?

If not should I just buy this in stores/online elsewhere?

Steam patches the games itself. Just download it and it'll patch it.
Same way it patches other games automatically. Only thing I don't think Steam updates is third party games. Then again, I don't have many of those and I never pay attention if they're being updated automatically.

I think it depends on what your asking. If your asking if Steam patches it to the most recent version, yes.

If your asking if you can use player-made patches/mods on the Steam version, I dunno.

I think the community-made patches will work with the Steam version, but I'm not 100% sure.

But really, the game is playable patched up to the last official version, so it's not the end of the world if you can't use the community patches.

It depends.. I have player made mods/patches running for HL2 and Sin:Emergence, both of which I had to make folders to get to work. It's worth a shot if it's player patches/mods you want to work.

You WILL want the player made patches, and you can install it in steam. Just install into the folder that has all the vampire folders including the executable in it.

With the player made patches, all the bugs are fixed and it's much smoother.

edit: and yeah, I've went through all the NWN/BG/NWN2 etc. games. Liked the expansion for NWN2 better than NWN2 itself. That is, when I turned that stupid meter off :P
