+6 Internets | PS3 and Television Choice So I just picked up a PS3 and realized... now I need a kickass TV to play it on! I've done some research, but would love some opinions from people with experience. The room I am playing it in really isn't suitable for anything larger than a 37 or 40 inch screen. Should I go balls out on a 1080p LCD screen for that size? How does it stack up to 1080i in real terms? Assuming I go for 1080p, should I be sure the HDMI inputs are v1.3? Some models I have been seriously considering are, Mitsubishi LT-40133, Samsung LN-T4061F, and JVC LT-37X688. |

| . I just picked up a Samsung LCD (on sale, couldn't pass up the price), but I went with a small 23" (perfect for my room), and it looks like 1080p is only supported at 32"+. I researched the hell out of it, and from what I can tell the Sony Bravia line is the best LCD out there (but expensive). Sharp Aquos is nice too, and might still be on sale at Fry's. Just make sure you get 2 HDMI ports (most newer lines seem to have this), take a good look at contrast ratio (some of the Bravia's come in at 8000:1, which is insane), and if possible try to do a side by side comparison at a place that will let you adjust settings. Best Buy/Circuit City seems to employ a high ratio of morons who don't know how to setup their display TV's, so if you can get a remote to play with them, it would help alot. *Editing to add: My 360 looks great at 720p, but again, it's only 23". There's really no reason at this point to get anything that doesn't support 1080p on a screen 32"+. I also see a small difference between 1080i and 720p (my TV supports both). 720p seems to have a higher quality picture, so I'm sure 1080p would blow 1080i out of the water. ![]() There's a Sony model out there called the KDL-40V3000 that looks identical but rings in around $200-300 less and I figure it's a Best Buy only model because it's identical to W (and they don't sell the W in 40"). The V is also not listed on Sony's site. Quick edit: I also understand that this is just above the entry level TV for HDTVs, it's priced right at the $2000 mark, and it's juuust right for our living room. Double edit: We're waiting until the end of next month to buy this TV and the XBox elite bundle (forza+marvel alliance) since Black Friday will likely have a killer deal out there. So far J&R Electronics seems to have the best price. We have one here in NY, but I'm willing to drive into the city to pick it up. Last edited by ashatumar : 09-30-2007 at 03:13 PM. | |

| Black Friday is the day after Thanksgiving, the busiest shopping day of the year and (often) the day that single-handedly puts retailers in the black for the year. Tons, and tons, and tons of sales on damn near everything.

It's a huge, massive retail deal in the US, usually the day 'christmas shopping season' kicks off for most people. buy buy buy spend spend spend. I try to avoid any shopping other than groceries for the entire month of December. ![]()

| Best Buy gives great deals on BF, as do a lot of the other retailers. Usually you'll get deeply discounted bundles, or early bird rebates. It's worth it to me since I'm already in the market for a TV, why not hold out for the deals? I read the wiki entry on BF, turns out it's more like the 5-10th busiest sales day of the year. The Saturday before Christmas is known as the busiest sales day of the year. Cliff Claven factoid for ya. |

+6 Internets | Do the major retailers make their deals known for Black Friday in advance or is it just "show up and see what you can get"? With the Canadian dollar surpassing the American dollar, this is a prime time to take advantage of slow market price corrections on electronics, and pick up a cheap TV or PC. |

| Most retailers know well in advance (i.e. a month or more) what they will be reducing for black friday. So, with a little internet research as well as some patience you are set. Safe bets are any electronics store--Best Buy, Fry's, etc. that are guaranteed to have good deals, but also crowds of tards. |

Eat thanksgiving dinner Watch football Take a shower and get a nap. Prepare lots of caffine for later.. Get up around 11 and go to walmart for the walmart midnight sales. (Around here theres a mad massive rush of people there. It really is a nightmare) After about 2 hours grabbing anything you can rush your ass over to BB for the 2 am kick off. Hopefully you had someone in line already as the line is already wrapped around the side of the store. 3-4 hours later if your lucky rush to your favorite clothing store (j.c. pennys, old navy, mall, whatever) and get what is left over. Around 8 or 9 hit up IHOP for breakfast with friends to show off what you've gotten so far. Drop off what you have at the house. Go back out and scrounge till about 2 pm when everyone's deals tend to end. If your lucky you have just finished all of your christmas shopping for the season in 14 hours. | |
