Now don't be hasty...

We still have Mass Effect, Super Mario Galaxy, and quite a few others to check out before we can say that. :P

Demo was excellent. Loved when the Big Daddy fucked up that dude.

It'll probably match it in my eyes.

I mean, they have the fire flower.

Both are pushing their respective genres, though. I officially declair Bioshock a non-generic shooter.

In fact, it's fucking awesome.

Does it run better than the demo?

The demo and the retail version ran exactly the same for me.

yeah, ammo isn't nearly as scarce as I thought it would be. I literally just picked up the grenade launcher, and I've already maxed out two types of ammo for it (PS, proximity mines + decoy = HOURS OF AMUSEMENT).

LINK: Comcast Is Starting The Tiered Internet.. Whether We Like It or Not : Ubuntu Tutorials : Dapper - Edgy - Feisty - Gutsy

Quote:
Sunday afternoon I finished setting up a dedicated rtorrent server for seeding Ubuntu .iso images. I do my best to hand out all the CDs I can, but I also figured I could make use of the bandwidth I have to do the same. Once I got on that idea I realized I had access to two Comcast connections (family) where I could drop in two more of these “rtorrent appliances”. So, I got to work setting a second one up and dropped it on the network at my Dad’s house.

Wasn’t I surprised to find that my seeds weren’t taking off. After some quick Google searching I found that Comcast is cutting torrent connections nearly across the board. All across the internet people are complaining about Comcast not letting them seed anymore–and many of these for completely legal material!

I know bittorrent is associated with a lot of pirating. Hell, so was ftp and whatever other protocol you want to drop in here. This doesn’t mean that it is *only* used for pirating. This doesn’t mean that there aren’t legit reasons to use the efficient protocol. Apparently Comcast doesn’t see it this way.

The way I see it this is the first step toward a Tiered Internet, whether or not any such thing is approved in Legislation or by the consumers. Comcast doesn’t care. They are simply cutting off access to part of the Internet, plain and simple.

I would not be surprised at all to soon hear that Comcast will allow bittorrent traffic, for an additional fee. If you *really* want to use that protocol you can pay us more, but otherwise we don’t deem it as part of “normal internet usage”. Once that starts what is to stop the avalanche that will happen next?

“You want access to YouTube? It really uses a lot of bandwidth and we weren’t expecting most people to use more than casual browsing and email. That’ll be $5/mo additional.”

If Comcast is able to start cutting off access to internet protocols they are already to the Tiered Internet that will only become grounds for corruption and extortion. Who will be next?

The telecoms like the idea of a Tiered Internet because they can then extort both sides of the product. Since they are the middle-man they can charge more to the consumers for access to “the whole internet” and charge more to large domains and take pay-outs from big online powerhouses to provide “better or preferred” access to them.

What do I mean by that? We all know Google pwns the internet. We start getting into the Tiered Internet setup and Microsoft gives a big payout to Comcast, requiring them to limit access to Google, while preferring access to Windows Live Search (or whatever the hell its called). They’ll make up some reason why its more efficient for bandwidth or some BS and you’ll have to pay more to get to Google. They would be in the perfect position to rake in huge piles of money from both ends, with nothing to stop them.

The internet needs to stay open. The *whole* internet. Not the convenient internet. Not the bandwidth friendly internet. Not the bribed-into-becoming-the-new internet. The whole internet. All protocols. All sites. All networks.

If Comcast is allowed to continue cutting off even one protocol we’ve already lost. Voice your opinion. Contact your local office. Complain. Make some noise. Switch providers.

Until then I’ll be getting these two Comcast connections switched to a competitor. It may be a slower internet (in my area) on DSL, but at least its the whole internet.

Turned everything to high/on. Framerate was decent, ran very smooth, only a handful of hiccups- looked absolutely incredible (not as good as 360 though) - might be good news if you have a lower-end rig. Turned everything down/off - ran perfect, but honestly, if you're going to play this game on shit settings, DON'T. It really hurts the experience - and this game is all about immersion.

Sharmai theres tons of companies that are doing that, not just Comcast. If you saw the stats for bandwith consumption and the amount of that traffic is bittorrent is just insane. At any given time on my ISP's network it's 65-75% bittorrent traffic. That's a significant cost to an ISP, and it's their right to limit it if they want to.

Mine filters any non encrypted bittorrent traffic and caps it. Meh, they're just trying to bring cost savings and stop legal issues.

Good thing the masses are too stupid to use USENET properly (and the $15+ a month premium providers keep people away, too.)

For anyone who read my earlier posts and might care, I did a clean format/reinstall of my OS and it improved Bioshock's performance dramatically. Why? No idea.

My only real complaint at this point is that V-Sync is pretty much a requirement, or the screen tearing is nearly unbearable.

FYI for anyone who may have/is planning to do what I did: I figured out part of my initial problem. I was using nHancer to force AA. Bad move, apparently. I got much better results when enabling AA through the regular control panel. I use nHancer to great effect in order to play Oblivion with AA and HDR on, but apparently it's not Bioshock friendly at present.

Which is why net neutrality needs to be enforced by law.

So I can't get the game to stop crashing due to something with my video card. I have a X1800XT with the bios flashed to X1800XT PE speeds so it is overclocked but this should be stable as I've been running it for over a year and never had any problems with other games. I start to play the game with decent fps at 1360x766 on high settings and then it will just freeze up. Then the graphics card appears to shut off saying that "no signal is detected" then turns back on and ATI recover tool reports that it crashed. Happens right in the beginning of the game.

I'm using the latest ATI drivers but they're dated as 8/13 on ATI's website and in my device manager the date of drivers is 7/23. Also applied a hotfix for Bioshock that was on ATI's site but it didn't seem to do anything. Are there beta drivers or something that I should be running?

Edit-- Was tired before when I did all that and didn't realize the hotfix was actually a new set of drivers so the install I did on them was not clean. Trying it over again.
