That's exactly what I'm concerned about. I have this eery feeling that I'll get home and both my computers will have the pre-load at 100%, but then I'll try to play and magically it'll go to 80% like my office computer did an hour ago. To be honest, I'm pretty pissed about this, especially considering I could have bought the game for 10-15 cheaper at a store and primarily purchased it through Steam for convenience. Convenience my ass.

Believe me Trip, the empathy is flowing. I went with direct2drive because rumor had it we would get to DL as soon as the game was available, which I assumed meant 10am pst or 10am everywhere (cst for me). D2D decided to wait til this morning to officially announce that the game would be available for DL at 1pm PST... just like steam. The difference being of course, we don't have the option to preload. I was bitter 4 hours ago but now I've calmed down. Fortunately my DL rate has hovered nicely around 800 KB/s. But still, 6gigs is a bitch to DL no matter how you look at it. I'm almost done extracting now, but I'll have to start dinner in an hour, then eat, clean, etc. so I won't be able to *really* start playing for a few more hours.

Yeah, my pre-load went from 100%-80% when the game launched, but it didn't take long to complete.

PC thoughts so far:

Running with AA turned on (the jaggies are terrible without it), the game runs smoothly until more than one creature is on the screen, then it descends into a choppy mess. This is not kosher. Oblivion fucking screams on my machine, and makes the 360 version look like poo. Bioshock? Just the opposite. Hopefully some good .ini tweaks are forthcoming.

Similar specs to you;

Vista64
X2 4200+
BFG 8800GTS OC
4GB RAM

It was really smooth in 1680x1050 resolution, and stayed that way with a few things on screen. Every slider was set to highest also.

Do you have AA turned on?

It stays smooth on mine without AA, but like I said, the jaggies are murder.

Hah, the game actually loaded on a Athlon 3200 w/512mb of ram and a 9500 Pro. Graphics were completely borked and I couldn't make sense of anything on the screen other than some fire, mostly it was just a mess of artifacts and missing textures. But it loaded! Frame rate at 640x480 was butter smooth too!

I'm running 2x7800gtx Evga's and the games running like butter with everything maxed out not one time has it hitched, lagged, paused in 5 hours of straight playing now. I'm actualy suprised at just how well the games running and how damn fun the game is. I have to say damn the game can scare the shit out of you it has that eary/spooky touch that I love.

So like, gameplay discussion and stuff.

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
I've elected to save the little sisters, because I'm sorta dubious about Atlas, and Tenenbaum appears on the level. I've saved about 4 and don't feel like my Adam gains are suffering. What I need is more slots, but I've only been able to buy a couple plasmid slots.

Big Daddies so far aren't too bad, but I did manage to fuck myself when I attacked one that had a Rivet Gun and he had put the little sister in a tube already, so I couldn't get her after he was downed.

Bought it at Futureshop with a gift card, and just enough left on it for Mass Effect in a couple months. They had a few copies, but they had it behind the cashier instead of on display. Managed to squeeze in an hour at lunch, befori coming home tonight and plunking my ass down - goddamn this game is great.

But Bioshock is eerily playable. I think the really nailed it with the controls, as it's smooth as hell and I don't have a hard time at all. Also, for some reason the atmosphere feels better sitting in a lazy boy + big screen. Last night when I played the PC demo, I just couldn't disconnect from reality enough because of the graphics issues whereas with the 360 demo (and now the full game) I can easily disconnect.
I must really suck at aiming then, cause I wasted all my bullets trying to hit that flying robot in the demo.

Opteron 165 @ 2.4Ghz
2GB of Ram
8800GTX 768mb

Runs smooth as butter with no jaggies at 1600x1200, everything defaulted to max. I didn't update my drivers to the new beta ones that nvidia has out.

Saving the little sisters nets you about 147 Adam a pop (if you count the bonus you get every 3 little sisters you save), harvesting them is worth 160. Early on harvesting helps but after a couple of areas it barely makes a difference, especially since every 3 little sisters saved you also get a free plasmid (some of which are very useful) and EVE / Medikits.

Jesus fuck, exactly as I predicted: had to come home and restart Steam on both computers, decrypted, and now it's downloading another couple hundred megabytes. This is bullshit. Don't fucking advertise it as "play as soon as it's released" if I've got to fuck around like this. And for god's sake, can't the restarting be automated so I can just walk in the door and it's magically working, instead of waiting another hour?
