[Rumor] Blu-Ray Wii on the way?

Note: I'm making no claim on the veracity of this blog, today was the first time I've ever seen their website. If this is true it probably IS another big nail in the coffin of HD-DVD.

Nintendo may introduce Blu-ray enabled Wii
By Danny Mendez

Nintendo may introduce Blu-ray enabled WiiAn unsuspecting informant accidentally stumbled upon a Blu-ray enabled Wii while visitng Nintendo's R&D facility. Apparently the bathroom wasn't that easy to find.

While searching for the bathroom, the unnamed informant took a wrong turn Willy Wonka style and opened the wrong door. Upon entering the room, he noticed a small group of Nintendo employees (engineers?) watching a movie on what looked like a Nintendo Wii. The informant recounted the details to the Sarcastic Gamer, but made it unclear if the movie playing abilites were a hardware add-on, a software upgrade, or a brand new Wii model. Regardless, he took several mental notes about the situation:

* The remote control to control movie playback attached itself to the Wii-mote nunchuck style.
* The drive slot glowed blue while the disc was in but faded to black when the disc was removed
* The Nintendo employees quickly ejected the disc and placed it in what was undeniably a Blu-ray disc case
* There was an extra Wii channel titled "Wii Watch" emblazoned with a Blu-ray logo

This discovery comes after Nintendo's Reggie Fils-Aime hinted at an upcoming surprise for the Nintendo Wii during a Gamehead interview. "The surprise is coming," he teased, "by the end of September."

"I can't help but wonder," says the Sarcstic Gamer, "if Sony's Peter Dille knew about this upcoming feature roll out when he made his now famous 'HD-DVD dead within months' claim a short while ago."

I didn't read the comments, in my experience they are usually a bunch of people pissing on the topic or each other adding nothing to the discussion. My bad this time i guess!

You do realise that the lack of VA isn't a limitation of the storage medium, right? It's more Nintendo being lazy/cheap bastards.

I also don't understand how people can possibly believe rumours as outlandish as these. How gullible do you have to be to spread this shit? It seems to be becoming an everyday occurence for some random no-name blog to post an outrageous rumour in hopes of getting a few hits. Sad really.

Actually Cor, this particular piece was off a known satirical website. The link doesn't refer to it, but if you follow the stream upwards, you'll find that that the kid who was pissing in the river made no attempt to pass this off as a rumor and has been doing it every week for some time now.

Which makes posting this nonsense here even worse.

As I stated, this was the first time I've ever seen the website after a friend linked it to me. If you'd like to provide an instant "This website is bullshit" filter for every single unique websites on the planet, be my guest...

How hard is it for you to process that for a Wii to have a Blue-Ray player that it would need to be a completely separate re-released version of the Wii? Did you think that all this time the Wii had a Blue-Ray player and there just wasn't any firmware there to make use of it? Did Nintendo somehow outwit Sony into creating a $249 Blue-Ray player that they never advertised?

Not to mention that even if this was true and the 'engineers' were playing a movie on a Blue-Ray enabled player, it would cost >$400 to produce and defeat the only real selling point the Wii has. Blue-ray players aren't exactly cheap yet.

Common sense, people. Use it.

3 Problems..

1st as evernyone has already mentioned this website has a habit of posting fake rumor... And obviously from reading the article there is ZERO way to prove anything he said,

2nd This could potentially come as an attachment or as an entirely new system rerelease. IF i even entertain the possiblity of it coming then we get to problem of the Wii graphics which can not handle 1080p. Kind of a bad idea to do blu ray if you can't use its full potential.

3. Assuming number two and STILL assuming the idea is even remotey possible (HA) then it must be coming as an attachment which i suppose is a nice idea for those who want bluray but reallly.. why would it even matter for nintedo? No games woud use it and only the rare person would buy a blu ray player.. it just makes zero sense to have it...

I see now. You're one of those people that looks for reasons to be offended. It must be frustrating to go through life like that.

No company in the history of companies has ever upgraded their hardware right? Idiot. It said RUMOR In the fucking title from the start and was just posted for discussion. Of course retarded shits like you have to go after the poster not the post.
