READ ME:Sony to introduce new $600 SKU - 80 GB HDD w/ Motorstorm

Fresh off the positive news of a $100 price drop, word on the street (leaked AP story) is that Sony will be creating a new SKU with an 80 Gig Hard drive packed with Motorstorm. There may be more in the package, but that's what we know right now. Perhaps a rumble sixaxis?

I'll post the link in a few hours when the stories hit, but it's pretty much confirmed at this point.

NOTE: IF YOU WANT TO HAVE HARDWARE EMULATION WITH YOUR PS3, BUY A 60 GIG PACKAGE SOON. THESE NEW SKUS WILL HAVE SOFTWARE EMULATION

All in all, this is really fucking retarded of Sony. They basically negate their price drop by soft-increasing the price again. Goddam retards.

I honestly expected nothing less from them. The only way they could redeem themselves now is if they introduce a new revised PSP in the near future. Otherwise...

What's that you say? The 60GB models are no longer made and all you can find is 80GB models? SHOCKING!

In 1 months time, that's all you'll see, well, assuming they can sell the 60GB at 400, which they won't becuase there's no fucking software.

edit: A little odd that Kotaku hasn't reported this since they're usually the fastest to get gaming news.

There's an embargo on this news until 3 AM edt.

Currently, the plan seems to be sell 60 gig at $500, 80 at $600.

I wouldn't put it past Sony to phase out the 60 gig like they did with the 20, leaving $600 still.

I could give two shits and a fuck about the PS3. It's the N64 of this decade, only worse. I'm just curious as to what exactly software/hardware emulation means and what it pertains to?

It means less backwards compatibility I think. In essence its more like the 360's backwards compatibility, meaning all ps2 games will not work on your ps3.

There are benefits to software emulation..., native high res rending will be possible with software emulation, as well as real AA/AF.

I hope the old PS3's will have hardware/software emulation on a toggle.

Hardware: There's PS1/2 chips actually inside the machine.
Software: No chips -- uses actual software to emulate the older system architecture.

Basically, it's the difference between an NES emulator you use on a PC, and an NES-on-a-chip hardware shrink.

...

Also, screw you. The N64 is the greatest system ever.

So how bad is the software emulation v. hardware?

Is it terrible like 20% games dont work and another 50% have glitches or what?

And they can upgrade it with firmware right?

Dreamcast actually had good games, saturn is about right, right down to being very difficult to develop for.

According to the release, the price drop takes effect immediately. I wonder if major retailers will adjust prices accordingly for tomorrow? Circuit City's ad still had the PS3 for $599 in their Sunday ad this morning.

I should clarify: The relation I make between the N64 and the PS3 is more an opinion on Nintendo then versus Sony now. They both were arrogant and head strong and felt like they could do no wrong because they were the big boys on the block. N64: Fuck you game devs, you will develop games for cartridges or you can go fuck yourselves... and so they did go fuck themselves, along with the Playstation and its dominance over that "era." Now Sony is doing the same thing, telling people "these are the rules, abide or die." Forcing devs to make games on this shoddy piece of hardware that Carmack says is about as easy to program for as pissing over your shoulder. And now, like back then, developers are leaving Sony.

The N64 is a great system, don't get me wrong. I played through Jet Force Gemini again about 6 months ago, and Majora's Mask about 1 month ago. And you can all thank god there isn't online Mario Kart 64, your fucking balloons wouldn't last 30 seconds.

You can't argue that Sony isn't making many of the same mistakes Nintendo made oh so many years ago.
