[360] Red Ring of Bullshit

I bought my 360 on launch day and it decided to die today because I was owning Guitar Hero 2 too hard. So here's my predicament. I have an original Premium package. Microsoft wants $140 to repair it. I want to get a repair or a new console for free. Has anybody found their way around this?

I was thinking about buying a new system from a big retailer like Wal Mart (Gamestop would probly pay too much attention) and swap the consoles, then return my busted system and ask for the cash refund. I've never tried anything like this but I'm sure somebody has a system worked out.

Edit: I still have all the original accessories and boxes, so I can put all of the old stuff back in the package it came in.

I bought mine from Best Buy in November and it broke after like 2 weeks, I also bought the warranty from BB. When I took it back, they didn't even open the box, just told me to go get a new one. I doubt they look at serials. Of course, that wasn't a money exchange.

OP: Use cash to buy, and go to a Target/Walmart that's not in your area. If you buy during a weekday morning, return during a weekend night. You don't want the same people seeing you.

Make sure your old Xbox360 is wiped clean, use dust off to clean the vents, etc. Dirty console bought 2 weeks ago will raise eyebrows. They will have someone from electronics or loss control inspect the box for all components. Just be patient. Your mentality should be "I'm the victim." Play stupid if anyone asks you any questions. If you are pressed, just say you don't deserve to put up with shit breaking 2 weeks in and will prob go look at the PS3.

The fans in my 360 went out last week also... so I can turn it on for 30 seconds but it just freezes and when I restart it I always get the red rings. I'm just going to send mine in for repairs, but I wanted to add in on the microsoft hate.
