| Games you would like to see re-made (not sequelled) Sorry if this has been brought up before, I've done a few searches and didn't see a thread for it. So, we all know that Hollywood has run out of ideas and are starting to regurgitate their old movies with new actors. I mean at this point, just about every good old Horror movie has a crappy re-make, as well as Ocean's Eleven, and plenty of other movies. Well, if Movies can do this, and TV shows can do this (Hi2u BSG), and music can do this, why not video games? So, if studios went back and reworked their old classics with new graphics, sounds, engines, etc., what games would you want to see remade (well, of course)? Ones I'd like to see: Wing Commander 1 Myth: The Fallen Lords X-Com UFO Defense Master of Magic |

| X-wing vs Tie Fighter. And redo the single player campaigns for the originals. X-wing v Tie Fighter was a game released before its time. It was designed for Internet play in an age where hardly anyone had internet connectivity and the connection technology was shoddy at best. Even on 10-base LANs the game would frequently disconnect and out of sync. I dont understand why LA has never attempted to redress these licenses, but likely they would be gayed up with podracers and gungan ships today. Last edited by gremlinz273 : 06-26-2007 at 01:27 PM. |

| Earthbound Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire Rogue Squadron Star Wars Episode 1: Racer Pretty much any old simulation or action game would be a good candidate for graphics/physics overhaul. RPG's not so much, since they focus on other areas. Edit: Quote:

| Metal Marines for the SNES. Semi-RTS type grid based war game. Soooo much fun, and extreme annoyance when the fucker gets lucky and hoses your entire AA array with a well placed double missile that somehow dodges your 6 Dual AAs. Loved that game, and the enemy generals were pretty hilarious with their constant shit-talking if they were ahead. I'd love to see a cell-shaded Chrono Trigger remake, with expanded backstory on the characters, and more sidequests and what not with Magus.

+5 Internets | More than games that were allready great at the time of their creation, I would like to see upgrade-o-remakes of games that were interesting but globaly flawed. A good example would be Front Mission: Alternative a kind of rts in slowmotion on Playstation that was pretty buggy. Still, maybe because of the setting, maybe because of the pace, maybe because of the distance the camera was set at or maybe because of a mix of all that it really gave a feeling of engagement. It managed to give a vibrant feeling of realism, of warfare, through deflation instead of inflation. This with current tech, better path finding and good AI/scripting would be sweet. Another would be Omega Boost, still on PSOne, made by no other than Polyphony "Gran Turismo" Digital. Think high speed flying robots dogfighting and launching clouds of missiles. Omega Boost is basical the closest thing video games made to mimic Macross Plus. Sadly the game is plagued by an overly simplistic control scheme and insane difficuly from hell (you got to love that big shaft phase where you have no clue of your spacial position and start bouncing all around to your death). The game was gorgeous back then, more gorgeous with a refined gameplay: I am in. As a closing example I would say Sylpheed on Mega CD (Sega CD). As a shoot'em-up, Sylpheed is a gigantic turd, but as a cinematic experience it is practicaly unmatched to this day. Game dev all around the world need to go play Sylpheed now because in an industry driven by copying the ideas of your neighbours Sylpheed has been criminaly uncopied. Sony kinda tried with Philosoma but missed, Treasure made a sequel (Sylpheed: Lost Planet) that was almost as big of a turd as a shm'up and completely forgot what was great in the original and I suspect the recent Sylpheed on X360 (played in cockpit view) has not much to do with the original either. So... what was great in Sylpheed? Fist there was the constant radio chatter, then there was a dramaturgic use of the background: you start in the middle of a space battle, you fly through behemoth enemy ships, you dive into enemy bases: it is completly badass! There is stuff like that in Radiant Silvergun, in Star Fox even in Rez you say... yes, but at the tenth of the intensity of Sylpheed, the hundredth, the thousandenthththth. Remake Sylpheed right now, make it good and have our jaws drop. That is all. EDIT: you tube is cool YouTube - Front Mission Alternative YouTube - Omega Boost - Zone 6 YouTube - SYLPHEED (MEGA-CD) gameplay 3 of 5

More developers need to just release their full source code so the fans can update old games. Just look up Freespace 2 Open to see how the community is keeping a classic looking good. | |
