| Xbox 360 faults ..or the lack of, according to Microsoft. This isn't meant to be a direct flame on the console itself, as I plan to get myself a Elite soon enough as I acquired a 50" Samsung DLP recently (1080P True). Rather this is more of a response and discussion towards: A Q&A with Todd Holmdahl, the hardware guy at Microsoft, about Xbox 360 failures - A+E Interactive: Your Bay Area hangout for gaming, music, movies, culture - Its obvious that the xbox 360 is more than just the "3-4" % reported by Microsoft Reps. Also, people on their 4-9th Xbox 360s due to the fact the problem isn't being fixed, rather, its being patch fixed by just resoddering the connections and calling it good to go or replacing the disc drive (depending on the problem). With the new heatsink now coming in all new xbox360s and refurbs, there may or may not be a improvement on Xbox 360 reliability. The PS2 had DRE, the PS1 wouldn't read discs right (however, the genius upside down fix ruled all), Xbox had powersupply issues (not so much). Focus: What are your experiences with the Xbox 360? How has your customer service been with Microsoft? Note: Please don't lie in order to further fuel like this some sort of raging epidemic. It is not some small minority thats having problems either. This isn't a thread about which system is better, its more about to see if Microsoft is just downplaying the problem without directly admitting there is one. Note II: Please don't add in the usual Sony > or = or < than Microsoft > or = or > Nintendo bullshit. This is specifically for Xbox 360s.

| Experiences? Day 1/2 of my purchase I had 3 DREs while playing Gears of War. The console has locked up while playing Crackdown a few times, and once the drive completely shut off, causing nothing in Crackdown to load. I haven't dealt with MS customer service yet, though I imagine I will in the next few months. |

| I bought an xbox 360 about 4 months after release. It worked fine for about 8 months and then my games started freezing, maybe once a day, then a week later about twice a day, then a few weeks later I couldn't even play a game because it would freeze ever 20 minutes. Called MS customer service and they were adequate, sent me out a box right away and I got back a refurbished unit in about 10 days. That was in... February? I think. No freezes since. So a mixed reaction from me, disappointed that my 360 broke down within a year, but happy with how it was handled. |

4 months? He should still have 8 months on the warranty left, shouldn't he?

| While I love my Xbox 360 and play it a lot (no problems yet *crosses fingers*) Im curious why they publish "interviews" with so much bullshit in them? Examples: Q: Do you still say that is a normal return rate for the console? A: We continue to say the vast majority of the people are really happy with it. A: We don’t comment on what we’re doing internally. A: We don’t comment on that. A: We don’t talk about our production. A: We don’t disclose the actual number. While I understand the guys position, why even bother showing up for an interview that will make you look like an ass because you cant really give any information? You cant talk about numbers, internal processes, ratios, production.....what the hell are you doing here then?

+15 Internets | Fortunately, it was my friend's 360 that I had in my posession when it went 3 Red. I've never had a console that I purchased fail on me and I don't plan on starting now. No matter how good the 360's games get, I wont be touching a unit unless it's bargain bin at Best Buy ten years from now. This kind of bullshit isn't acceptable to me. Why don't they make 'em like they used to? You know, the kind you could punt off a cliff and it'll end up working better than before. |

+7 Internets | I bought my first 360 back in October. About two months after buying it I got the dreaded "ring of fire". I had bought the Best Buy service plan and the day after it happened I brought it into my local Best Buy and got a brand new on in return. No problems since then, and my roommates and I play the living shit out of it. Fifa freezes sometimes, but that's because my roommates don't know how to take care of a game disk and it has it's fair share of scratches. |

| Like I posted in the other thread: I bought my 360 about 1 year ago and as of 2 weeks ago the cd-drive will not open properly if the machine is standing upright. It opens fine if the machine is laying down, but if its vertical the front panel of the cd-drive gets caught on the box. Not a big deal, just another small issue with the system |

+23 Internets | I bought mine in November and I had a single Disk Read Error with Gears of War about 2 weeks after I bought the machine. I haven't had a single problem since. *knock on wood* |

| I personally haven't had any problems with my 360. But a friend of mine bought his some weeks after release and broke down 5 - 10 days laters. He exchanged it for a new one, and the same thing happened. He got tired and used the money to buy something else. Another friend had issues with his 360 5 months after purchase too, but i'm still questioning that one, since he doesn't really take care of things that much. |

| I bought a 360 back in March of 06, which I believe was the "second wave" of manufacturing. Have had zero problems other than freezing up once or twice while playing NHL07 (not sure if the disc is scratched, I should probably check). Another buddy of mine has one from the first round of manufacturing, and has had zero problems as well. Two other friends have had repeat problems, with 360's bought during the first round and back in December of 06. One has gone through three units, one of them DOA from MS, and the other guy threw his board in the oven; yes, that "myth" actually works, but he did it as a last resort due to it being out of warranty. |

| I have had my Xbox 360 since day one, and probably have had it on 80% of the time literally since then since I don't usually bother turning it off. I have had zero problems with the unit since day one. However, when it comes to PS2's, I think I went through 4-5 of them. Seems like after a year or so I would get DRE's. Too much fun. |
