Urgent Request: Final Fantasy Tactics Codes

It's that time of the year for my annual FFT playthrough. And this time, I want to make things interesting with Gameshark character-modification codes.

Unfortunately, several hours' worth of Googling for old GS codes has turned up a pretty muddy mess. It seems most codes out there are either for the JPN version, or their writeup is too arcane/confusing to understand, or the codes don't accomplish what I want them to accomplish.

That said, what I'm looking to do are the following three things:

1) Modify the character ("Millie") who resides in my 8th character slot
2) Give her the "Holy Knight" (Agrias) base class*
3) Make it so that she doesn't use Agrias's sprite, but instead, uses the normal female sprite (and can change outfits with new jobs, etc., like a normal character)

So far, I've been able to accomplish 1 and 2, but I can't make 3 happen. Every code I've found will force your character to adopt the sprite of the base class you're using. I know there is a workaround, because years ago, I remember using it. But for the life of me, I can't find or remember how to do it now.

If there is anyone out there who's familiar with FFT Gameshark modification, or who can make sense of teh Intranets better than I can, I beg you to help me out here.

So, to recap: I need my character in Slot #8 to be a Holy Knight but retain her normal sprite. If you can figure this out, I'll have to think of a suitable reward.

Thanks in advance!

* Either "Holy Knight" or Orlandu's "Holy Swordsman" class, but if there's no way to change the sprite you inherit from the class, then obviously I don't want the Orlandu sprite.

Man, I want to play FFT now. I have no idea where to get it from, though.

Copies of the game are freakin' expensive. I had to buy one on eBay about a year ago because I lost a bunch of my old games while moving.

You can pick up a used copy on Amazon or eBay for relatively cheap, but if you want one in near-mint, mint, or unopened condition, you're gonna pay out the nose. (Slightly less so for a "Greatest Hits" version, as opposed to the uber-rare original "Black Label" version)

I went through the same hell over Xenogears not long ago, as well. That one's even more rare/expensive.

Final Fantasy Tactics Codes

CMGSCCC was good with tons of gameshark, then gameshark turned gay and CMGSCCC turned code breaker.

However, archive.org being so awesome has all the codes you could ever want for PS2/PS1 games.

Tangent - Anyone ever play with gameshark, et al on older games just to mess with random stuff? There were so many crazy codes for Mario 64 that were a blast to experiment with...

Hell yeah.

I started messing with my Gameshark on a FF9 gameplay, somehow, all my characters were switched around and I would do random damage (heal enemies or have randomized damage from 1-9999)

I have no idea what I did.

80058676 0005

That will modifiy the 8th position so it will change the character to the class of Holy knight. It should not change character sprite.

Unfortunately, it gave my character the Ramza Chapter 1 sprite, and also "locked" the Holy Knight class so that I couldn't access it.

Back to the drawing board, I guess.

GameFAQs: Final Fantasy Tactics (PS) Game Shark Handbook by Aerostar

That guide has all the info you need to do pretty much anything with any character in FFT. I'm reading it and it is, slowly, coming back to me...

:-\ I needed a distraction right now, but this isn't what I had in mind.

I found those, too. But I really want to keep the base female sprite but have the Holy Knight class.

So far I've successfully done the Class + Sprite change to Agrias, and at the end of the day, I'll live with that if I can't get the sprite to remain generic. But if there is a way to change the sprite back to generic but keep Holy Knight as the base class, that'd be awesome.

Hm. I've drilled the codes down to these three.
30058674 0005 will change the formation base-class on position 8 to holy knight
30192BCC 0005 will change in-battle base-class on the 5th character slot holy knight
30058678 0040 will change the gender on position 8 to a normal female, this should force the sprite to remain normal.

I know this is possible (I've done it). The guide I posted has all the info you need, but you have to actually read through it and figure it out since it doesn't just have codes.

I do this by using FFTastic. Significantly easier to deal with than any number of codes. It also helps me keep things in line (I tend to delevel myself at a few intervals in each chapter, because I'm always too high a level if I don't force myself to 'skip' random battles using save states)

Obviously, this only works if you're using epsxe or some emulator, or have a dexdrive (to connect memory cards to your comp) I've used both methods and it works with both.
