guildwars help

I know there are some other places to go but I thought I would ask the experts. For some reason I have started playing guildwars again and I am having a blast. I have 2 questions.

What is the point of Ascending in the original game?

I only have the original game. I know there are 3 expansions out there. Which is the one I should buy?

Thanks for the help.

I think Ascending has to do with being able to kill a certain type of boss (or rather, not be killed by).

From what I remember, there is a type of monster in the later missions that has an attack that wipes out non-ascended people pretty much instantly.

I have *heard* Nightfall is the best, though haven't tried it myself. It is supposed to have the best RPG elements of the games and have the most "PvE" centric content (though still highly PvP).

I picked up Guilds Wars and both expansions (the original Guild Wars got renamed to Prophecies. Then came Factions, then Nightfall.)

I started an Assassin which is a Factions class and it's been a total fucking pain in the ass playing through Factions. There aren't enough quests to smoothly go from 1-20 and grinding in GW is about the most boring shit on the face of the planet. I said I'd hit 20 before I got into any of the pvp but I lost interest shortly after level 15. I may just cheat and roll a PvP character but I doubt I'll find the energy to go back and finish the last 5 levels.

Ascending mostly has to do with the storyline and if your not level 20 when you ascend it gives you enough xp to hit 20.

Both expansions are great in their own way, I'd suggest getting both if possible.

Maybe you just suck? Getting to 20 in GW is a breeze, people get to level 15 before they even leave the noob island after 2 or 3 missions. Assassins are known to be noob magnets and they really arent a good choice for new players, try a different class.

If you had to pick just 1 expansion, Nightfall. The reason for me is you don't have to rely on groups as heroes (not normal henchman) make missions possible to do solo. I really enjoyed Factions as well, but it is the toughest of the 3 campaigns to begin with and especially for classes like assassins because of AE attacks.

I'm still on the noob island. I didn't say it was hard, I said it was boring. There is a difference.
