Wow this looks frickin amazing. This game will always hold a special place with me, being the first RPG love. I think I may need to buy a DS just for this game.

P.S. in that first music video Rosa has the most perfect set of boobs ever hehe.

It could be related with the fact they see the brand as not strong enough to warant a costly remake. Both Trigger and Cross never reached Europe and the PS1 version of Trigger never got out of Japan. The counter point would be that the PS1 version got released no less than three times, the last being in 2006! The counter counter point is that it costs close to nothing to rerelease the exact same game and that the lack of a 3D remake on DS may be because of unimpressive sales of these remakes.

The X factor is how the deal with Akira Toriyama was made. It could also be the road block.

As was previously stated, it did not come out alone, but they did release it as part of FF: Chronicles on PS1.
