+29 Internets | I bought one for my little cousin, good game library + if they fuck it up, who cares = a solid purchase for kids. A friend of mine bought the PS2 for the same reason, I'm just trying to infect them with Nintendo fanboyism at a young age. |

Why does the GBA outsell the PS3 (third month in a row now) while the DS plays GBA games? Same question can be applied here as to why the GC is still selling. | |

| For me its a combination of price + software. Like Sean, I wouldn't buy a PS3 right now for $200 even if you showed me a list of great games coming in 1-2 years. Likewise, I won't pay $600 for a PS3 with ONE killer app. Its going to take a lot of great games and *killer apps* before I fork out $600 to buy the PS3.

| i can't make myself pay $600 for a console. I'm not a big movie person so I also have no intentions of starting a blu-ray library. i love hdtv, but everything i watch in hd comes on tv anyhow. i will buy a ps3 when: - price drops below $400 - multiple high quality rpgs available, including ff13 this may be a few years, I dunno...i'm a patient fucker when it comes to console games so that's perfectly fine |

+8 Internets | Motorstorm is pretty damn good if you like racing games, and Resistance isn't a bad fps at all (it gets much better in the second half of the game), but yeah, the PS3 needs more stuff out. I don't really regret my purchase for the moment, however, my opinion might be a little different to most as I got my console for nearly £200 under retail price. If I would have bought one at full price -- I'd be pissed. In regards to a 360 price drop; I doubt we'll see it before Halo3/Gta4 hit. Both games are going to sell a shit load of consoles, irrespective of the price. Microsoft will probably have massively increased sales for a few months before dropping the price before the holiday season. Probably the most sensible thing to do from a business pov. |

The same thing is going to happen with Every X-Platform title, Assassin's Creed and GTA4 are the ones to really watch, Spiderman 3 didn't get much press. Can't wait till I see Metal Gear 4 and FF13 announced for the 360.

| I still not sure that we're going to see MGS4 and FF13 / FFVS13 announced for the X360. At least, not without them going "motherfucker, now we have to somehow port these art assets, this and that, ect to a workable X360 engine" - those specific games are built on shit entirely designed around the Cell processors and are not something they can easily switch over. If they do take them to the X360 they're either going to be a quick port that doesn't look as good or run as well... or they'll be solid attempts that are put out a good time after their PS3 releases. Right now the games you're seeing switch over are from companies that weren't saying much and weren't going on and on about PS3 and Cell ect. But it's pretty certain that after those games we won't see anymore *big* PS3 third-party exclusives from those two. We'll still see PS3 exclusives from certain companies - but they won't be games as big as those. Last edited by Sean; 05-18-2007 at 05:42 AM.. |

| I know and recognize that it plays a significant part. Is it the second largest factor? Certainly. Far and away though - the PS3 lacks games. It doesn't have a killer or anything solid to back it up except the ability to play PS1/PS2 games. The Wii on the other hand has an absurdly powerful killer app - Wii Sports. The sales of that game are just devastating in regions where it's not packed into the system bundle and is blowing everything away. It has like almost a 1:1 ratio with system purchases in regions that it isn't bundled in. So I'd wager that it's also the main selling force in the regions that it does come bundled with as well. Price is very important - it's always a huge factor, but always the runner up. In the end a game library worth buying the system for is always number one. |

| the "initial" software for the wii sells the system. the ps3 does not have that, BUT, the ps3 has all the ps2 software + new stuff + Blue Ray and does 1080P!!! imo ps3's price is hurting it badly- everyone i know looked at it and went too expensive not buying it, maybe after a significant price drop(to around 3-400) everyone i know that has played the wii, has bought, or tried to buy it- the price isn't the issue here. if the wii was as powerful as the ps3 with all the bells and whistles it has AND has the wiimote AND wii sports, it would not be selling that well. due to price |

+107 Internets | Hah, yeah my brother and I bought one for 700 when they came out. I guess I could justify shit like that back when I wasn't paying rent and bills. ![]() PS: I would totally pick up a PS3 for 200 dollars right now if I could. Just to have something new to fuck around with for the weekend. |

| Exactly. The Wii's main strength seems to be in "group games". I've already seen several of my non-gaming friends get one, and I've seen them used quite a bit at parties. Anything competitive and/or sports oriented seems to be a huge hit.

| Free bundled games are never a bad idea, and it's shame the PS3 couldn't have done it to both ease the cost, and raise the value of a $600 purchase. Fuck, you know, buying a second controller, and a game or two for the PS3 can push the price after tax toward $800.. which really feels closer to $1k then $500. Seriously, how the fuck can you not have a bundled game when you have your own game studios? I'm sure some Sony exec would bitch about the extra price, but printing discs is a high overhead expenditure, not a fixed price per unit expenditure. You had a fucking 1 year delayed release and you couldn't bundle a 5 hour game, or bundle a souped up PS2 game. FFS, retards. |
