Even if the PS3 was 300 dollars it wouldn't be selling much better. Who the hell buys a system that has nothing on it? It's like the GameCube all over again indeed.
People would've bought on brand faith alone if it was ~$300, I guarantee it. I would've likely bought one by now. PLAYSTATION brand strength at the height of PS2 may have been stronger than Nintendo's with SNES. It was slightly diminished with the failing PSP, and destroyed with PS3.

Games and price go hand in hand. In this case they dropped the ball on both accounts. Had there been games, but still a $600 price tag, I dont think it would be selling much better. Likewise, if it were only $300 with no games, it wouldnt be selling much better either.

It's both of them actually. The price is bad, but if a killer app was out there, people would pay the price. The problem is, there is nothing REMOTELY close to a killer app out there. There won't be until MGS4 (which is actually rumored to be going CP or was a while back) and FFXIII. GTA doesn't count because it's cross platform.

I would not purchase one right now if it was offered to me for 200 dollars. It has absolutely nothing of value on it that I wish to purchase along with it.

It's the same reason I have not bought an X360 yet - the games I desire are not out for it for another couple months.

Really, what must have titles are there on the PS3 that you would buy? There's a lot of them coming, but for the moment they do not exist. People who invest in a PS3 at this point in time are pretty nutty imo.

The 600 dollar price tag is irrelevant to me - I don't mind paying that much. It's just that it'd sit in a corner and collect dust for quite sometime still.

Not to hang on the man's nuts or anything, but I agree with everything that Sean has said just about everywhere on these forums Re: The PS3.

I have a friend with a PS3 who complains non-stop about there being no games out for the PS3...none. Then I ask him how his Blu-Ray player is doing, since that's all the PS3 is good for right now.

It just doesn't make sense to spend $600 dollars today on a PS3 and do nothing gaming-wise with it... when you could spend that $600 (more than likely less) when those titles you want come out. Basic economics really. Doesn't make sense to invest in depreciating assets.

The only people buying a PS3 atm are Blu-ray watchers, and hardcore fanboi's. I'd love to own a PS3 the day it's software library justifies the cost.

If the PS3 was $300, even with software only being "COMING SOON" right now, I would own one.

If it had a handful of games worth playing at a $600 price point, I would probably own one.

But $600 with nothing to play, sorry.

It is defiantly an A + B condition for why I dont own one.

Don't get me wrong though - I'm still a Sony fan. I think the PS3 is a great value for its price as a Blu-Ray player and that it is a solid piece of next-gen hardware.

I will be buying a PS3. There are many, many first party exclusives that are going to be huge games that you won't find anywhere else that I am looking forward to.

They just aren't anywhere near the table yet. When they are, I will sing their praises and urge people to buy a PS3 for them. But buying a PS3 before then is pretty kooky.

My Wii collects dust - it has for quite sometime. It's going to continue to collect dust for quite sometime as well. But I played the shit out of it for the games that were worth buying it for on release. I'll play the shit out of it again when Mario and Fire Emblem are out, and then it'll collect dust again for an undetermined amount of time. I don't mind that - because I got my use out of it.

A PS3 would collect dust to begin with. I'd turn it on, play with setting it up, and close the cabinet door.

ps3 did have a pretty good showing at the sony event, i was fairly impressed by the quality of games, but as its been repeated, nothing worth buying now.
Uncharted and Ratchet look fucking awesome btw.

Uncharted: Drakes Fortune - Gamers Day 07 Onstage Demonstration Uncharted

Ratchet & Clank (PS3) - Gamers Day 07 Onstage Demonstration

Alright well I pretty much agree but I'm also PRETTY sure you've said Wii has hardly any good software(if it wasn't you my mistake but tons of people have said it), yet its selling like mad.

Wii and PS3 software both suck(wii sucks a little less though) but price is making Wii's sell. Just freakin admit it.

Speaking as purely a layman on this type of stuff (when reading this forum that's basically what I consider myself in light of some of you) I really do not think software is a big issue with the PS3. The exact same software argument can be made with the Wii and even my parents want one. People do not understand Blue Ray, or HD, or understand why they should get one. Hell I'm pretty savvy about these things, I at least understand the technology, and I see no reason to buy any kind of HD player or HD set right now, and that's really the PS3's biggest selling point.

I've just never been convinced that there is some great legion of buyers waiting for the software. A lot of gamers I know are basically sports gamers, and they are burned out on the industry, the 400+ dollar systems and releases of Madden/NBA/whatever every year. I think even Halo is not going to move such a significant amount of systems, I think the layperson buys the games for the system, not the system for the games.

BTW My Wii also collects dust, really after you've played Zelda, what good is it? The other games bore me, and the controls piss me off on a lot of the games. 360 is where all my gaming gets done, aside from WoW on the computer.

I'm also still confused why people buy gamecubes.. aren't all or almost all games compatible with the Wii?

Gonna guess that a significant portion are bought for children; the rest by people wanting to play TP?

Same story with GBA -- that shit will NOT stop selling in America.
