+8 Internets | My intentions in that post were a little muddled, I apologize. What I'm saying is what nintendo wins at is same room multiplayer games and no other console matches that. The fact that xbox and PS are fun in online games is the point I was making. Completely different markets. |

| I think Sean's list of what games are coming out for what, and how the different studios are treating the different platforms is pretty illustrative. (I tried to follow the Sean/Chris argument but it really didn't make much sense) The PS3 and 360 are in direct competition, those are the two consoles with the next gen graphics titles, the carry overs from old consoles. They will do it better, prettier and online. That much is obvious and there will be a lot of ports between the two. However I think publishers/studios are almost assuming if you can afford a PS3 or 360 then you can afford a Wii as well. If you own a Wii you don't want to play the same rehashed shit with crappy graphics and a controller that doesn't suit the game. You want innovative/retro game play that is tailored to the Wiimote. Saying that premier titles, that essentially use the same game play as they did on older consoles, will be ported to the Wii because of market share makes no sense. That game play was designed around a non-motion sensing rumble shock 2 (or something with a similar button/analog set up). Rather I see the opposite happening, Market share of the Wii (and hence the Wiimote) drives development of games that specifically target the Wiimote. It is just as silly to say that there is no overlap in the PS3, 360, Wii demographics. Of course there is overlap, however there is something every single Wii owner has in common. They like the Wiimote/Nunchuk. That has to be the main factor in any decision to develop/port a game to the Wii. Lack of graphics horesepower, disc space, online service capabilites are all secondary. Long story short, the Wii is the Wiimote it's not just another console. |
