You're not alone mate. The remote/nunchuk refused to work for me at times and it ruined my experiance with the game. The aiming felt pretty damn good, but waving my hands in the air to slash didn't feel intuitive or responsive. I would have much rather pushed a button.

Well, aside from Wii Sports you have to give credit to Super Swing Golf (which imo does controls better than Wii Sports Golf) and Trauma Center.

Zelda... it does ranged weapons better. A lot better really. The Wiimote is good for "slower-paced" ranged weapon gameplay. Sadly, the GC controls were definitely better for the melee aspect of the game.

The melee controls for Zelda weren't all bad... but they really should have made pressing the big A button be the standard attack swing rather than swing the Wiimote.

Instead it was used for the Jump-attack.

If the regular swing was just A, the jump attack was some different combination, and the circle attack kept to "shaking" the nunchuck *or* charging the A button I think it would have been a much more enjoyable experience. Still not as good as using the gamepad, but a hell of a lot better than the retarded way they set it up.

Total agreement on Zelda controls. Zelda:TP was the game that showed me the wiimote has potential, but the shaking shit for swinging (whew) was pretty dull. Simply aiming with the wiimote added 100x more enjoyment to the game than anything else.

Shaking the nunchuck was what I hated most. Half the time I'd try to do the spin attack, nothing would happen, so I'd be shaking it around frantically while Link was dying on screen. If it would have happened once or twice, I would have been fine with it, but it kept happening over and over. Same with that 'secret' shield attack. It was just as bad.

I had better luck with the spin attack, but yeah - it wasn't anywhere near as responsive as it should have been.

The shield thing was just never even worth trying to use due to its horrible success rate.

So yeah, overall, I guess the Wiimote did detract from the quality of the game. I loved the Wiimote for aiming, but that definitely did not make up for how shitty it was for the majority of the melee attacks.

I do still think Zelda TP is by far the best Zelda they've ever made, even after the newness has worn off. It certainly should have had much more responsive controls though - especially for the infuriatingly long delay they gave it to make it work with the Wiimote.

And sadly in the case of Zelda it definitely is an example of the Wiimote not adding anything truly new to the genre.

That's what I mean, really all the Wiimote has done, except in the case of Wii Sports, is piss me off. Sonic would have been amazing with the GC controller, with the Wiimote I gets pissed trying to do the jump/speedburst thing where you lift the Wiimote a little, and I quit playing. Trauma Center was good. DBZ as I've mentioned, someone needs to pay for that, and pay dearly. I am hoping that Metroid will do some good things with the Wiimote.

I really wish Nintendo would add the option to use a standard controller for games instead of the Wiimote. Some games just don't work well with motion controls.

Are you speaking mandatory option for all games? I doubt that would ever happen -- it'd be too much of an admission of insecurity in controls.

However, some games do support controllers, and it's incredibly likely that Smash Bros. will use classic/gamecube controllers as the de facto primary options.

If you want another shitty cross platform pick, look at Marvel Ultimate Alliance. The Wii version was awful and the controller support made that game incredibly frustrating to play.

That the type of game I meant would have been better on the Wii with standard controller features than trying to force motion sensing control.

For any cross-platform port like MUA they should definitely add in the ability to use a GameCube controller. That shit just isn't built for the Wiimote and it's turning out to be an obnoxious gimmick for those games.

It seems like nearly every cross-platform port has ended up like that. I don't see it changing either.

I think that's unfortunately going to become a standard trend for anything that isn't built for the Wii from the ground up. =\

I had 0 problems whatsoever with controls on Zelda:TP, in fact I liked the Wii controls.

Quote:
I think the controls actually hamper the Wii at points. Playing DBZ ont he Wii made me want to murder japanese people who thought that was fun. Good game, horrible an completely non-intuitive control scheme. I hear once you spend the time to learn it it becomes great, I'll never know.
I rented that game and wanted to murder someone when I played it, so I left it at my friend's house and he played it hardcore for a few days and said that it is actually really fun once you understand the controls.

I totally forgot about Sonic. That game was seriously annoying. It felt like there was a slight lag when turning too. The controls weren't as reponsive as they should have been. I really hated how you had to hold the controller horizontally too. It didn't feel very comfortable at times. Quite the contrast to the PS3/360 versions which felt way too responsive.

For me, Zelda would have been a lot better if I could dictate where Link swings. For instance, if I swing left, he swings left. If I swing right, he swings right, etc. You know, real control over the character's movements?

Anyway, just wanted to say that they released the Crystal Chronicals DS trailer. It looks great.

Seems really simple to me. Twitch your hand, link swings. Twitch your left hand, he spins. Forward + twitch = stab, lock + switch = guided swing, lock + a (I think) = jump attack, pull up on left hand = shield bash

Then of course there's the special moves and such I didn't mention. I really had no problem at all picking it up, and I felt it was much more fluid than controls with the GC.

On another tangent, I went to TARGET today because they had one more xbox 360 elite left and I wanted to snatch up a black one before they're all sold out, but apparently my graduation gift check is still on hold with my bank and my current balance is like $13 less than the total cost with tax. So some other dude came in and bought it right in front of my face.

So I bought paper mario instead and I guess I'll have to figure out some way to get a x360 elite some other way. Bummer that it would have been so easy if my bank wasn't so paranoid that my account which usually stays under $500 all of the sudden gets a check for a lot more than that balance.
