Like the GC, the PS3 will be worth buying sometime in it's lifetime. It may not be for a few years though.

Arguably, both the Wii and Xbox360 aren't at the no-brainer, worth-buying stage either. The Wii needs at least 1 more title, on top of SPM and TP. The Xbox360 is seriously suffering as far as variety goes. Their hit list is dominated by FPS's.

Eh their sold list is dominated by FPSs, the list of titles worth getting rarely jives with the sales numbers.

Unfortunately, sales numbers like that reinforce the image the system gets: developers will continue to support the titles that sell, meaning we won't see Viva Pinatas as often... =(

orI do consider the Wii a must-buy, but hey, I'm a fanboy.

I think it's interesting that most of the discussion here is directed towards sales numbers and market leading. Is that really what we're all aiming for.. to have our team that we picked for one reason or another to come out on top? You'd think in the end it would be best to be completely detached from any company and be happy that we're in a 3-system battle with a good variety of games coming out (although it seems the variety is between a X360/PS3 style game vs. a Wii-style game).

I can't say I'm immune to it, personally - I want to see Nintendo succeed and I do want to see Sony take it up the ass a bit with a thny dildo for being so arrogant and making a system I absolutely wanted to buy cost way too much for me to afford.

It's like Nintendo and Sega got are my divorced parents, my dad still comes around to sleep with mom every once in awhile but he's pretty much useless, Sony was dating mom for awhile but he turned into an asshole. Now Microsoft stepped in and married mom and I'm not warmed up to my new "dad" enough to start taking him seriously.

I want Nintendo to succeed so that they get the financial means to survive for many more generations. Also, I'm a firm supporter of the motion sensing controls, and the farther in front they are, the greater the game will be coming from 3rd parties.

I want Sony to be burnt BAD by their asshole decision to trojan a Blu-ray player into our homes, raising the standard price of entry to $600! If Sony won this generation, where would prices lie in the future?

I want MS to fail as much as they can without MS deciding to leave the console space. I don't agree with the accessory Nazis they are, and their hardware is built out of rubber bands and gum. I don't want them to leave, because they've done wonderful things for the industry -- a great UI, wonderful (!!) online integration, and helping us move to HD gaming sooner than later.

=)

There's Mario Party coming out at the end of the month, with Metroid Prime around August and Super Smash Bros around September. Then a few more good games until the end of the year (at least 5 or 6 from now to December).

If the dates stay true its a good time to buy a Wii.

First of all, MS will never, I mean NEVER leave the console industry. Now that is out of the way, I want both Nintendo and MS to be very successful (maybe MS at a lesser degree) but with PS3 be very competitive at the same time.

With all consoles this generation being competitive the next generation should be orgasmic. No one should root for one single console to dominate.

I believe that MS was looking to leave the industry if 360 was as big of a "failure" that the original xbox was. MS has lots of funds, but they can't afford 4 billion losses every generation. If MS was looking to continue strongarming the competition, we'd have seen a price drop on the 360 by now. Absolutely.

As far as we know 360 is not a big failure, and actually gaining popularity. Why would they drop their price? It's an excellent system and still selling hundreds of thousands system per month in NA. They will eventually drop the price on the xbox 360, which is going to be around Decemeber when Halo 3 get released. Don't stress yourself, they have a marketing team.

Either way, I think they'll definitely release another console well before 2016... I would think six years at the most.
It actually doesn't matter whether it is referring to not releasing another console or not. In some ways it makes it worse.

'It's ok, shit sales and staggering losses will pick up and it will become really profitable in time for us to sell the next gen console at record breaking losses.'

If they designed for 10 years, they needed a new media format, period. In addition, had they released when they were fully ready, it wouldn't have been ~$600.

I think the wisdom of the Elite will shine in the coming months as people begin to place digital download devices into their home entertainment center. I'm getting ready to invest in a new HDTV and am stoked to find that I can place one unit that will provide content for viewing AND double as a video game system.

I think I'm the kind of guy the Elite was aimed at. I also really appreciate they're going to have a digital download/HD viewing Xbox, and a gaming only Xbox standard for the majority of 2007.

I think I'll wait for the HD DVD addon though; I'd be annoyed if a blueray/HDDVD solution followed close behind in time for the holidays.

With how MS has placed these settop boxes, I think they've got some balls for taking on Sony and Apple at the same time. I also subscribe to the theory that the Wii and the Xbox/PS3 are different markets, especially as the downloads become more and more critical to sales stategy.
