Edios is not releasing PS3 games...

... until more people buy PS3s.

Eidos holding off on release of most PlayStation 3 titles until 2008 // GamesIndustry.biz

Eidos has confirmed that it won't be releasing most of its major PS3 titles until next year, stating that the console's installed base will not be high enough before then.
As part of a statement released alongside the company's interim results for the six months ended December 31 2006, CEO Jane Cavanagh said, "We believe that PlayStation 3 will be a successful platform, and are developing technology and products for this console.
"However, as we do not believe that the installed base will be high enough until the second half of our 2008 financial year, most of our major product releases on the PlayStation 3 platform are not scheduled before that date."
The six month results reveal a rise in revenues for Eidos from GBP 50.1 million to during the same period last year to GBP 74.5 million. Losses stand at GBP 17.9 million - down by GBP 2 million year-on-year.
Cavanagh said that the board of directors also believes the Xbox 360 and Wii will be successful, with Eidos's first titles for Nintendo's machine due out this spring.
"The board believes that the introduction of new consoles will drive strong demand and pricing over the next five years," Cavanagh continued.
"In addition, the increasing opportunities for digital sales to consumers, through PC downloads as well as the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 platforms, provide the basis for improved margins."
The statement observed that Eidos enjoyed two UK number one hits in the second half of last year with Just Cause and Battlestations Midway, and highlighted the GBP 44 million deal with Warner Bros. that was signed in December.
It also confirmed that the first products from Eidos's new casual games division will be launched in the first six months of 2008, following the acquisition of developer

nice catch-22 the ps3 is sitting in. ps3 has no titles, no one buys ps3s. if no one buys ps3's, the ps3 gets delayed titles.

Is it too early to do the ps3=3do joke yet?

Anyways, the ps3 WILL sell and have a great library - it just won't dominate the charts like the ps2 did.

At first I laughed - out loud no less. As much as I think the PS3 failing is horrible for the industry, I love a good kick to Sony's balls as much as the next guy.

On the flip side of that - afterwards I thought "What the fuck does Eidos make that I would buy anyways"?

Tomb Raider and Hitman is pretty much it. They don't make anything else decent really.

uh, i guess they made a resevoir dogs game.

But Resevoir Dogs would only work as a game if you had to sit in a warehouse and make up witty, snazzy conversations and then cut ears off.

It being the catastrophic failure it is right now, IS bad for the industry.

It being far and beyound the last place finisher in this gen war, and blu-ray failing horribly (yes, I said it, and it needs to fucking happen), while still not killing Sony's Gaming division 100% ISN'T bad. Infact, its fucking wonderful

Maybe if you say it over and over it will become true, because it seems the european launch has been solid and that the Blu-Ray is currently the favored flavor of HD disks.

Why would anyone want blu-ray to fail? Well encoded films with good HD transfers look noticably better than the DVD equivalents, giving enthusiasts the opportunity to use their televisions to their fullest. I don't see how that can be a bad thing.

no you can like any console you want.

but the way it is shaping up, IF europe follows the sales trend of the usa and japan, the ps3 is going to have an extremely hard time competing with the wii abd 360 sales wise

Horrible for Sony, good for the consumers. PS3 being a huge success because it would prove that Sony could have people take dumps into PS4 boxes and it would still sell well enough.

Shitty product sitting in the shelves is good for the industry
