| I hope for their sake that it's nothing like Gamespy for PC games. I have never once gotten that garbage to work correctly through my firewall, even after opening up a ridiculous number of ports (which shouldn't even be necessary at all). |

| Pride Never Die | I concur, gamespy on the pc is pure trash. At least Nintendo is getting something for online play on the Wii.

| BUBBLES THE MONKEY!!! | Apparently it's the same shit that is used for DS online which is fine (although this seems to be much more advanced). Apparently it's going to have built in friends lists which leads me to believe that friend codes may turn out to be absolutely worthless (well, more like hope than believe). EDIT: Yeah, it appears that way about friend codes. Matchmaking and buddy lists. Matchmaking specifically looks like friend codes are going to be null. Most likely we'll just use them for mii's and stuff like we do now. |

| Wii Friend Codes to be Title Specific news from 1UP.com So I guess Nintendo goes another generation without a decent online plan. |

Being a supporter of Nintendo for 20 years has taught me a lot: they can provide the world in entertainment, but there is always a catch that far trumps anything they have to offer.

| true that, but if done RIGHT, it should be easy to make it user friendly. each list is game specific... so they make a master "name" and then allow said name to add codes for the games that person buys so say Braen - username on gamespy... games code list..... then when match making happens, you want to play jump rope IV with your friends, the server checks to see of braen has the code for jump rope IV ..if so match up. adds a bit of complexity to the mix, but -again- if done right, just a minor inconvience to add a code when you buy the game. |

I hope. How could anyone be so dimwitted to think folks would punch in 16 numbers per friend per game? It's absurd!

| Pride Never Die | Nintendo can't even keep the Wii on the shelves so online play isn't that big of a selling point. I like online play but a console can still do well without it.

| Doesn't mean that it's 'a-ok' for them to completely fuck it up this release. Nintendo still hasn't completely gained respect from hardcore gamers. They're just shooting their image in the foot when they do shit like this. I don't play online games and have no plans to, except for SSBB, so it doesn't really bother me personally. In fact, there isn't a single game I've actually had fun playing online, except for Halo 2. I hate GOW online and everything else I've tried but I'm kind of old fashioned I guess. It's true the Wiis will keep flying off the shelves cause tons of people are buying them up, but that doesn't give them an excuse to shit in all our food. |

It hasn't been confirmed by Nintendo I don't think though. I think it really is an April Fool's joke. EDIT: Pulled this directly from the article. Nintendo Wii and GameSpy will be holding hands in the near future, it was announced today that both companies will work in coordination to provide multiplayer technology for a couple of Wii Games. Some of the features that will be available include: * friend rosters * advanced matchmaking capabilities * comprehensive rankings data Matchmaking IMMEDIATELY says that the friend code thing is null and void. Second, I don't really believe anything EGM says so meh to them. The only reason I took the dead rising thing w. a grain of salt was due to the fact that my friend heard rumblings about it.
