[PS3] Little Big Planet

This little gem of a game was shown off at GDC yesterday. Gorgeous graphics, beautiful art and a re-invented 'old school' 2d platformer feel.

There's a great video available on Gametrailers - Link here, with writeups available at the usual places.

Apparently, we won't be seeing this until 2008 unfortunately, but, its nice to actually see some of the software that is coming out in the future.

Come on Sony. We need to see more now.

Yup.

Eurogamer article --

Perhaps the most exciting thing to emerge from Phil Harrison's keynote address was LittleBigPlanet, a game Sony reckons embodies its "Game 3.0" concept perfectly.

Developed by Media Molecule, it simply presents you with the tools to create your own entertainment. You start as a little brown creature who appears to be made out of wool, in a backyard like environment, bumbling around the place in an effort to work out how to interact with different bits and pieces. Once you've got this under control the whole experience opens up, allowing you to place different objects in your world using a cut and paste type system.

All of the objects are made out of materials, like wood, fabric and metal, and the whole game has a charming look.

The key factor for Harrison and Media Molecule is that there is no limit to what you can achieve, which was highlighted by a demonstration led by lead designer Chris Healy. The maximum of four players participated in a pre created game, the object of which was to collect the sponge resource.

Simple running and jumping soon escalated into players using jetpacks, before banding together to overcome more difficult obstacles. It was a fast a fluid demonstration that left big smiles on most people's faces.

There's no information on a release date as yet, but you can satiate your thirst for the game with the latest screenshots from the show.

Wheres the death and explosions? Is this game just one giant puzzle adventure where instead of having to do it yourself, you have to do it yourself then tolerate 3 other idiots slowing you down?

There's a vid related to this game on Gamevideos [link here] that shows exactly what makes this game different.

Using purely user created content to push the game forwards is an interesting idea -- who knows if it'll be embraced or not. Its still nice to see someone try.

Rant about fun: done.

Rant about user created content: probably soon.

But yeah this thing sounds "fun" (and completely uninteresting).

That video looked very unique and intriguing, and this is something I would probably enjoy with some buddies, but not random people.

I'm tempted to get a ps3 just for this game after watching them build a level. Man they need to make this bad boy for the 360 so i dont have to buy a ps3.

That game looks awesome! I like the music. It's stuck in my head.
