xbox 1

Well it seems the retailers are trying to get shot of these now, and one place is selling an xbox + forza, gotham 2, halo 2 and fable for £50 ($80ish). Don't really care about having it as a console, but was interested in getting it modded and using as a DVD player / media centre thing - and watching divx movies over the local network on my tv.

Anyone have any experience with doing this? Whats the DVD playback like compared to the ps2 (currently using), are they quiet? Do they have enough horsepower to play divx's? Any modchip preferences and how hard are they to install?

Guess thats my main questions, although I guess lack of tv tuner is a problem - perhaps could get a USB one and get it working on Linux.

I've bought and modded two xbox's. One for me and one for one of my friends. I bought all my modchips from MrModchips The Number 1 Name In Console Modifications

I used the Xecuter 2.6 CE mod chip and the Solderless adapter. The adapter depends on which 'era' of xbox you have (i.e. the motherboards change inside)

I store all my downloaded tv shows/films on a hard disk on my main pc. I put a 120gb hard disk in the xbox to save games onto.

The divx playback is *flawless*
The DVD playback is *flawless* (since the latest version of XBMC!)

This is the thing to get to watch divx movies on your tv over your network. It is PRECISELY why I got it. However, I started downloading xbox games from newsgroups and that's a pretty great bonus too.

All in all I paid probably 120 quid for everything (mod chip, xbox, hard disk, remote control, new controller) and it was worth every single penny. My housemates love it.

I picked up that pack from Argos, and sold forza/gotham/fable on ebay. Total cost for xbox+halo 2? £20.

Just need to decide which modchip to use, and then xbmc is going on it.

Where can I find that deal? I can profit off that sucker from places offering 50% trade in value if trade in goes towards a wii

shit at gamekrazy trading in an extra controller, halo 1, lotr:tt and halo2 with an xbox got me $85 store credit with my "MVP!" card

If I had a wireless router I'd be using it as a media center to (yes I know they're cheap but I doubt my roommate would buy the wireless card so I'd still have a cable across the whole house).

They need to shrink that big brick like Sony did with the PS2.
