| 1. Valkyrie Profile (ps version) 2. FF7 3. Diablo 2 4. FFX 5. Super Mario RPG 6. Chrono Trigger 7. FF6 8. Kingdom Hearts 1, hated 2 though... Never played Xenogears, but pretty sure it'd be up there. Took out the Zelda's ;p. CT and FF6 are lower down my list, because I've only played them last year on my comp and basically sped through the whole game with ~, so I cheapened the whole experience. Little patience these days. Also enjoy the castlevania's, especially the ones on the gba and the ps1 sotn. Last edited by dumdee777 : 11-28-2006 at 02:30 AM. |

+61 Internets | BUT YOU'RE PLAYING A ROLE! In which case Sean's favorite RPG's would be this months lineup of anime tentacle rape hentai games. But yeah, the only zelda which could come close to classifying as an RPG is Zelda2. |

| Lets see: 1) Secret of Mana (This is #1 by a significant margin, no love for this yet?) 2) Final Fantasy 2 (US) 3) Final Fantasy 3 (US) 4) Xenogears 5) Chrono Trigger 6) Dragon Warrior 4(?) The one where you could be a shopkeeper I actually have to end my list here, adding the Zelda games would fill it out though. I've played countless others but none I'd recommend. Enchanted arms was meh. Xenosaga is zzzzzzzzz. I find every other Final Fantasy lukewarm at best, I'm not sure if I'll ever like an RPG game like I used to like these. |

| 1. Planescape: Torment (best story & best characters of any RPG by far) 2. Fallout 2 (SPECIAL is still one of the best rules systems created for any RPG) 3. Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines (marred by horrible bugs when first released, but even then it was still the most fun I've had playing any game in any genre) 4. Baldur's Gate 2 (...) 5. Gothic 2 (first-person RPG, done right... see: anything by Bethesda for examples of the opposite of this) 6. Temple of Elemental Evil (what it lacked in story was more than made up for by the near-perfect D&D rules implementation--something no other game has even come close to matching) 7. Betrayal at Krondor (another classic, it's just too bad none of the follow-up games were worth a shit) 8. Ultima VII (the peak of the series) 9. Wizardry VIII (same) 10. Arx Fatalis (not quite up there with Gothic 2, but still an excellent example of a first-person game; the spell system was particularly interesting) They just don't make 'em like they used to. ![]() |

| I can't order them at all, nor do I think I have 10, but here goes. It's eerily similar to Vorph's: -Gothic 2. Very alive-feeling world, good storyline, and challenging (read, you need to actually get good at the system) combat. As Vorph said, I'll take it over Morrowind or Oblivion anyday -Shadowrun for Genesis. The decking system was <3, good storyline, and pretty sophisticated gameplay for an early console RPG. -Final Fantasy: Tactics. The end boss was disappointing, and the storyline was a bit trite, but it had excellent tactical gameplay and the jobs system was amazing. -Fallout 2. Great example that NOT EVERY FUCKING RPG HAS TO BE FANTASY (I'm looking at you, MMORPG makers), fun combat, and excellent theme. -VTM: Bloodlines. The best horrifyingly buggy, half finished game I have ever played. If they'd had six more months to polish this baby and make a less-tacked-on ending, it could have been the greatest RPG ever, bar none. It was that good, even with some game-breaking bugs. -Final Fantasy 7. Yeah yeah, I know; I have to say I like this game most for the Weapon enemies, the various summons, and the amusement park. But in all seriousness, it did a great job of creating a coherent-feeling world and making you really feel like you were shaping the world with your actions (even if you were somewhat on rails as far as the storyline went). edit: How did I forget Torment? I still have yet to make it all the way through this game ever, but even as much as I've gotten through has the best storyline and best characters I've ever seen in any RPG. | Vorph, On a scale of 1-10, how unbelievably excited are you that Bethesda Softworks is doing Fallout 3!? On that note, I second Fallout 1 & 2 as being classics. It's sad such games will probably never be made again. |
