+19 Internets | The only saving inside dungeons I noticed was "Quick Save" which makes you turn the system off right then, is there another way? I actually died to a boss yesterday at the end of a dungeon and I was like "no fucking way" and had to do it all over again, which was actually kind of nice. They'll tell you a "scholar" is necessary" to defeat the next boss where you're at Maut, but pure damage is the way to go, my scholar was such a wasted slot that he'd just read his weakness then it'd change by the time my guys went (seriously go damage). I kept my makeup of war/thf/whm/rdm even after getting the new jobs. I plan on waiting for the 3rd set before switching, though I switch a few guys here and there (my thief is also a black mage and my red mage is also a monk). I feel my thief is next to worthless most of the time, but because his AGi is so high and he goes first most of the time I fear losing him. Balancing your mana for a whole dungeon + a boss is really cool. I love how they just throw the game at you, I haven't felt like I was doing stupid shit yet and the plot (while lacking) gets started immediatly with letting you do shit. I think that's why I got into this FF so quickly, I immediatly got to play it. I just got my own airship that can leave the island itself, haven't had as much time to play as I'd like but I really like the 'no bsing' the game has done so far. |

| Man am I getting pissed of at these two back-to-back "mini" sections. I too use a War, Thief, Red Mage and White Mage team, and thanks to running through both dungeons in fucking Mini size, all 3 of my fighters are rendered useless. I now get to go through with everyone in the back line watching my Red Mage spam level 1 spells, hoping I'll have enough bang to kill the boss. Btw how the hell do you use the fire staff? It says it casts Fire but I can't figure out how to use the spell. |

| Great game, easily the best remake they've done, just got the FF6 advance rom and having a hard time getting into it now after seeing what square can do when they aren't feeling lazy. Quote:
As for phoenix downs not being sold, it's not too big of a deal. The few times I had a character die were on bosses and it was generally a total wipe anyways. Since the max enemies on screen is a pitiful 3 now it's pretty easy to breeze through most of the game with 3 physical fighter types and a white mage. One shot everything before the enemies get their turn, no mp conservation to worry about whatsoever. Few random things to add, The higher your job lvl the more times your character hits per attack. To lvl job fast just guard with each char on some weak stuff, 5 rounds of full guarding then finishing the battle tends to get you a job lvl. Monk gets 2 unarmed atk per job lvl and exp lvl, so you can PL one to a powerhouse really early. You can dual wield from the start, shields are only useful in a handful of situations.

Currently I've obtained some additional classes and I wonder if it's worth it to level them before going on with the storyline. Last edited by tatami : 11-28-2006 at 07:40 AM.

+19 Internets | Man that no phoenix down thing really annoyed me last night. I was going through the cave with the girl who prays and makes doors open. Anyway I had some fucking trash mob crit my white mage when I was out of PD's and take her out. So I'm already so deep in I figure I might as well try the boss yeah... that boss really requires healing. |

| Ham: I'm around the same part, just wrapped up the dungeon that Aria helps you with. I really like the new jobs. It's definitely a pain to make the level-up transition, and at first they may seem weak, but there's a lot of logic behind making the change(s): 1. My highest damage dealer so far across ALL jobs is the Ranger, when he gets to use elemental ammo vs. a weakness. To know which ammo to use, you need a Scholar's Study ability (or guess at weaknesses, which is often not the logical element!) to facilitate that. Not to mention Study will remove any buffs the opponent has. 2. The geomancer is by far your most consistent damage dealer, has a bunch of multi-target Terrains (spells), and gets a few Terrains that literally removes opponents from combat if it hits them. Until your Ranger starts to dish out heavy damage, Geo is king. 3. I miss my WHM, but so far I've been able to make up for the healing with normal Cures from the Knight and Scholar, and using potions during combat via the Scholar (x2 effect on ALL items... including elemental attack items!). Fights are generally much shorter as well, due to the Geo and Ranger, reducing the need for healing during non-boss fights. I loved knowing my THF would get the first or second action, and being able to rely on that for hi-pots and PDs in a pinch, but my Ranger and Scholar (probably due to the need quick info from Study) tend to do almost as well, getting in their actions before the opponents. Knight is weak on damage, but they're a great meat shield when someone's about to die, and they require almost no healing if they use the Blood Sword. Swap shields and off-hand weaps as needed. My only gripe so far is that using items outside of combat doesn't net you the x2 multiplier via the Scholar by assuming they would use the item instead of someone else. |

+19 Internets | I just got my n ew jobs, I'm going to try this setup Dark Knight (formally warrior, my mean 1500-2k dmg dealer), Evoker (figured it was a super-black mage, formally red mage), white mage (see no way to get rid of this) and Dragoon (replacing thief). I never really rely on potions or PDs (i never have any) so the thief is worthless to me 99% of the time. I couldn't stand scholar, then again I had no spells for him. edit: evoker seems lame, think I might go with another melee (3!) edit 2: tried viking after buying him 2 weapons and the viking helm and chest piece and I find out magic damage to him is like a death touch, god dammit Last edited by Ham n Cheese : 11-28-2006 at 11:09 AM. |

| Hmm did you talk to that dwarf guarding the dwarven treasure in that dwarven town after retrieving the two horns from the salamander/fire boss? He actually opens up the cave behind him with tons of treasures for you to loot. There you'll find books for your scholar. I think they don't work directly as spells, you just equip them as weapons, but so far it does decent damage for me. |

+19 Internets | Oh yeah... I did that much after the fact when I went back to find spells (which wasn't that town actually). So far I'm not digging Viking but I made a financial commitment to him. I'm considering switching Viking back to a black or red mage (its so hard for me to letgo of redmage) or Ranger. Dragoon is freakin' awesome so far, my favorite class next to warrior. Dark Knight is kind of weak because the main attack drains your health and you have to hope you dont get hit again between your next chance to demon sword the mob. My roommate tells me there's a ninja class hidden in some tower. I must find this tower, that would make my third dps choice so easy. I love the mages, I just hate having to be conservative as fuck when entering a dungeon because of no save points/tents/ etc. Any other hidden jobs? Anyone else know a strong one I'm not thinking of? The thing that turns me off from rangers so much is the ammo thing. |

+19 Internets | That's what I'm doing. I'd consider 2 DKs if I had 2 blood swords. My warrior was hitting for close to 2k on one mob, so hitting a group of mobs for 800-1000 is nice, but a lot of time the mob is still alive enough to hurt me. And jesus, Vikings seriously have like no magic resistance so far or I'm just getting unlucky. The thing that I loved about Dragoon is from a certain fight I had gone wrong. Everyone died while the dragoon was in the air and he came down and hit the mob. Survived a round of attacks barely, jumped again and then bam, finished it off. I was like 'omg i love you' right afterward. I've always like the jump ability, like having a character not taking damage the majority of the time. I turned my thief into the dragoon though so anything was a huge improvement. |

| Dark Knights are amazing if your souleater can wipe out a group of mobs, dmg is based 100% on your hp, so you can equip 2 shields and have a pretty badass tank that only takes damage from himself. If you aren't wiping out battles with it then the class is pretty much just another fighter with different flavor weapons. Dragoon I wasn't too fond of, I just can't get past the fact that if he's in the air, my whm is more likely to get raped, and the possibility that he'll eat a strong dmg attack, jump, miss my heal, land and get raped before another heal lands. Vikings are really only useful for dragon farming and the optional boss, provoke + back row + 2 shields means they take 300-400 dmg from stuff that hits a dual wielding knight for 2000. Their agility is horrible and their high damage weapons are wasted on crap 6 hit attacks for a long time. Thief is really underrated I think, surprised how few setups I read incorporating one. Mid game they get some great daggers, high agility so they hit like crazy and they usually go first so you'll start off battles with at least one enemy down before you take any damage. But at the endgame there's really no daggers that can compare to the swords/katanas you'll be finding. Pretty ideal for upgrading into ninja since that's when the daggers stop flowing. All the dmg casters are crap imo, but a lot of that is I just don't feel like sitting through boring spell animations every random ass battle, which leads to either not using it, or dragging dead weight down a dungeon until I get to the boss. As for hidden classes, if you send a mognet mail to another player 7 times, then send mail to all the npcs like 4 times, you unlock a quest for Onion Knight job, rewards for getting job lvl 99 and the optional dungeon. You can start sending the npc mails before sending to other players though, and you should start asap if you haven't since there's a 1 hour wait between mails unless you set your ds clock ahead 1 hour every mail. Ninja black belt etc you'll get as part of the story, but it's very late in the game. Most of the last batch are just same stuff you already have with better mp/stats. |
