+29 Internets | PS3 reviews The console launched today in Japan, any english reviews available already? Plenty of threads about the ups and downs of the console, let's use this one only for actual reports: technical problems, game impressions (not based on demos), information about the online setup... things like that. |

| Got any links to the system reviews? I'm also curious what's the clock speed of the RSX since Sony refuses to disclouse it. I wonder if it got downgraded. EDIT: Gamespot has 2 reviews so far: Genji(6.4) and Tony Hawk(7.3).

+29 Internets | Couple things I found: Sony's Open Platform for the PS3 website, not actually up yet: http://www.playstation.com/ps3-openplatform/index.html The user guide on the site is up, however, and it confirms a PS3-wide friends list (haven't heard it confirmed before)Quote:

| BUBBLES THE MONKEY!!! | THP8 looks amazing, but as I noticed when I played the PS3 version at GS (after closing of course ), the framerate is fucking awful. Imagine trying to play oblivion on full settings with a less than beefy machine and you get the FR problems with THP8. It's really upsetting. There is a very minor FR issue with the 360 version in the demo, but it was hammered out in retail. I'm happy resistance got good reviews because so far, it's the only thing worth buying at launch for that system. |

| Because they're trying to put out graphics that a $3000+ computer struggles with on something that costs 20% as much (30% if you take into account the loss they take). The biggest problem with both consoles is that they only have 512MB RAM total for both the cpu and the gpu to use. Yea, they don't have to deal with the overhead of an OS that isn't built strictly for playing the games, but that's still a pathetic amount of memory today. Even the 8800GTX which alone costs more than a PS3 or 360 (and has more RAM on just the video card than either console has for main memory and video memory combined) can't do 60 fps in Oblivion at 1920x1080 with everything on. It's more like ~35 fps on average. It's certainly playable, but since it dips into the 20s you'll see some hitching at times. At 720p, I'm sure it could sustain 60fps nearly all the time, but again that's one piece of hardware that costs more than an entire console. Last edited by Vorph : 11-12-2006 at 02:22 AM. |

+17 Internets | Let's not forget that it will take quite a while to get the full potential out of the new systems - especially the PS3. Give it a couple years and games will start looking a hell of a lot better. Compare the PS2's launch games to recent games - there's a crazy difference. |
