| Anyone seen the diff between HD and standard with a 360/PS3? I want to get a 360, but don't have the money for a HDTV(at the moment). Is the difference on a standard def TV so great that it isnt worth purchasing a 360 unless you have a HDTV? With Gears of War out now and its supposed amazing graphics, I dunno if I want to take the dive until I can get a 360 and HDTV at the same time. Any feedback? |

+2 Internets | It looks great on a normal TV, it just looks even better on a non-HD tv. And it also depends on the size of your TV. Unless your TV is above like 30'', I doubt you could really tell the difference since its all crammed together anyways. |

+19 Internets | Well...it's like this. If you've seen them run on a nice HD, there is a huge difference. Since you haven't, just buy the system and get the HD display when you can. They still look better than the older systems on standard displays. But you owe it to yourself to get an HD, if you're going to buy a 360 or PS3(eventually, at least). |

| I'd recommend getting the component cables (extra blue, green, red along with standard A/V) anyways for the 360, as it improves the picture quality over the standard cables. Of course it requires that you have a somewhat recent and decent tv with the connectors in the back. And, the component cables have a switch on the connector to allow HDTV if you upgrade in the future. |

+6 Internets | I just upgraded from a 27 inch TV to a 50 inch DLP HDTV last month. The difference is very noticeable, but my 360 was just as fun on the 27 inch. Get the 360 and then buy the HDTV when you can afford it. It will also extend the lifespan of your games, as you will go back to play them just to see how much better they look. |

| Not sure my monitor would be a better choice. In the back I have 5 ports, 3 are "R" "G" "B", and the other two are "H/V" and "V". Not colored. Will the vga cable even hook up to that? Last edited by arkk91 : 11-10-2006 at 02:33 PM. |

| When we hooked up the xbox360 to my 1080p TV to play some gears of war I have to say that I wasn't that impressed. The graphics looked "okay" my computer does better But the AA wasn't that great.. was especially horrible on PGR. |

| I play my 360 in 720p on a Sony 42" Bravia and I can definately tell a difference from SD. I seem to see a little hitching if I go 1080i but that could be imagined or it could be the TV and not the console. |

Anyway, the difference between standard definition and high definition is huge for me. The text in some games (like Dead Rising) is almost impossible to read unless you have an HD-TV. Like the above poster said, if you cannot afford an HDTV at the moment then get the VGA cable for your computer monitor. Unless it is extremely ancient the cable should hook up just fine. Just remember you will need speakers for sound! | |

| Maybe the detail wasnt on par with the sheer amount of fuckton hype games like GoW has gotten?

| Have you played it? The in-game graphics are the same as all of the "hype" videos and screenshots we have been shown for the past year. I'm sorry that your system of choice isn't going to have any uber graphics this generation, but don't try and go shit on the other systems just because you don't want to buy them. |

+15 Internets | If the limiting factor is the quality of your TV, it really doesn't matter how high def the PS3 (or the xbox360 for that matter) is... of course high quality videos are then going to look better on a high resolution PC monitor. On the upside, you can plug your PS3 in that same monitor and get a good (although small) picture. |

| Sadly there is no official or unofficial VGA cable to hook a PS3 up to a monitor yet as far as I am aware. I am not surprised that Sony didn't release one. They probably want people to buy their TVs. Hopefully an unofficial one will get released soon. I've taken my 360 to a few friends' houses who don't have HDTVs and it helps to have the VGA cable to attach it to there computer monitors so we don't have to play in standard definition. |
