| Sam and Max Haven't seen any threads on it, so thought I'd make a new one. I just bought and played through Sam and Max: Culture Shock. It took me about 6 hours to beat. Well worth the price for the cost of the entire season if they release the episodes as fast as they say they will, and each episode is as cleverly written as the first. Totally makes me miss my youth spent playing all the kings quest, space quest, quest for glory, and Leisure suit larry games I could get my hands on. And of course the original Sam and Max game was really great. The puzzles were well-done and required some thinking, but because the setting was so small, it kept the "frustration level" down to a bare minimum. Which is a good thing. Since, at maximum, there were only 6 places I could visit, it never got to a point where I was wandering the entire world with no clue what to do to advance the story. Maybe it was easier, too, because I'm now 24 instead of 10, but also I think the new Sam and Max is just a well done video game. Considering that the last adventure game I played was The Longest Journey and before that Grim Fandango, the Adventure Genre has definatly been "dead" for a while, but hopefully other people will take off on the success of Sam and Max and develop other, future adventure titles. With production costs and development times raising to insane levels, it's nice to see quality gaming delivered with a good script, voice acting, and "2d" artwork. |
