Tales of the Abyss

Haven't seen this hashed out yet. :P

Anyway, I was thinking about picking it up today. Yes or no?

Yes, it is by far the best of the series. I beat the Japanese version a few months back.. haven't started the english copy I purchased.. need to finish Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner first :|

But you can't speak for whether or not the English voice acting is any good, Vinen.

I suspect they will be pretty decent... Tales games haven't had a major letdown in the VA department yet... Anyhow, there is one thing I would be mindful of... many of Tear's abilites involve her singing a verse of a song... I fear how awful it is in the US version... it was done rather nicely in the Japanese version.

No complaints thus far, actually. It's also amazing how many VA's are used in English games. Already identified "Cherenkov" from Xenosaga I and Michael McConnighe, and Tear's voice is nagging at me. On top of it, Square-Enix is using Kari Wahlgren for Ashe in FF12. These people sure get around heh.

I'm about 30 hours in and I like it thus far. I liked Symphonia a bit better though, but it could just be the abnormaly long load times of Abyss getting to me.

About 60 hours in - absolutely love it. Beats the fuck out of any other Tales game without question. Hell, beats any RPG in recent memory without question.

Sadly I suspect I will be wholey disappointed with FF12 after playing this.

I'll probably get this game, but from all ther reviews I have read it's "good", but nothing amazing. I'm still more looking forward to FF 12.

Is there any Tie in with Tales of Symphonia outside of the Sword Dancer?

So I picked this game up and it's decent. I'm ready to kill that fucking Mieu thing though. And I thought the main character was annoying...

The Tales games are usually really solid RPGs. The only problem is that you have to be ready to endure some grossly over-the-top anime shit to get through them. The "otaku" level seems to rise with each title and I personally haven't been able to enjoy the series since Destiny 2 because the "6-year-old-looking-girl-with-cutesy-bunny-ears-and-super-cute-alien-pal" syndrome is getting a bit too extreme. The series has almost reached "maniac" status here in Japan up there with the anime-porn PC games.

Yeah, I'm not big on the whole "6-year-old-looking-girl-with-cutesy-bunny-ears-and-super-cute-alien-pal" kind of Anime either. I'm liking the gameplay, but it's not my usual cup of tea, as far as style.

Ah, I loved the gameplay - especially with the addition of the "Free Run" ability making the Battle-Field a hell of a lot bigger and open to new shit.

I had about 86 hours when I beat it. Though I spent shitloads of time doing stuff. If .hack//gu v1 wasn't coming out tomorrow then I'd play through it a second time right away. I really want to go back and do those fights and the bonus dungeon that are only unlocked on a 2nd+ playthrough.

I rather liked Rebirth.. probably my favorite one between Destiny 2 [I assume you are talking about Destiny 2 and not Eternia as you live in Japan] and Abyss has been Rebirth... the rest have seemed well.. too young... at least Abyss is more mature overall then Symphonia and Eternia.

A Second hi-ougi for each character is also unlocked in the second playthrough... unless they changed that for the US release.. I know that Guy and Natalia got their second Hi-ougi.. which they lacked in the Japanese release.
