Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth

If you're into H.P. Lovecraft's books, which are amazing, this game plays similarly like a book or a movie.

It's a first person survival horror game, and i've been occupied by it for the last week now. The sanity system is very cool, if you see too many gruesome things in the game or experience too much danger etc. you'll start talking to yourself, getting blurry vision, flashbacks, etc. The whole game enviornment is very creepy and dank, everyone is very hostile towards you and not helpful at all, save for a few people who seem to be sane, and the story line is simply awesome.

I would definately recommend this game to any readers of the Cthulhu books and other books by Lovecraft. Even if you haven't read the books it's a great game, but it's not a game that provides mindless clicky entertainment, you have to get into it. I was playing it at night during a storm with all the lights turned off and I almost shit my pants on some parts.

I considered buying it (PC version), but straight ports from consoles make me sad. Did anyone play that on PC? How was it?

I really like it on the PC, but as a huge H.P. Lovecraft fan, I am completely biased.

Since there is no HUD (you have to remember how much ammo you have and you have judge by your breathing and the way you move how hurt you are), it ports better to the PC.

The first act is a great setup for the game and gets the creep vibe off on the right foot.

For some reason i can't get past the first night in the hotel. One issue I have with the game is the action button. You open and close doors with it and also engage locks with it. As you close a door if you hit the action button too fast and not in the right place, you can reopen the door instead of locking it behind you. Annoying.

The sanity system is really a cool addition. Seeing things and hearing voices in your head as you discover things that a 1920-40s poersoon aren't used to seeing. Adds another facet besides ammo and health.

The game was in development for over 4 years by Bethesda, so the graphics are a bit dated, but very very good in their own right. I hope this game is successful as i would love to see more stories done.

A friend picked it up on the Xbox, and while playable, just wasnt my cup of tea. I snagged the pc version and am having a blast. Also a big Lovecraft fan, so Im more than willing to overlook the smaller imperfections in return for a solid atmosphere set in the C'thulhu world.

The game has alot of the same details as the pen and paper rpg such as the sanity meter. As mentioned above, the graphics do show their age, but it's more than passable if you enjoy the source material. Id also recommend you read The Shadow Over Innsmouth story if you plan to play the game, or after if you dont want to be surprised by just what exactly is happening in this weird ass town. PM me if you want it and I might be able to help you locate an ebook version for educational use only.

I think the game ends differently than the story, but who knows, Im not there yet.

Your character is just all sorts of fucked up though. If youve read the story Shadow Out of Time, ( if you havent, protagonist has his mind transferred to that of a giant conical shaped alien while the alien assumes control of his body to learn and stuff for 6 years) the same thing happens to your guy in the prologue of the game itself.

So your dude had his brain sucked into the body of a big ass alien, he has psychic visions, and now is running from freaky frog people. Dude should be buying lottery tickets cause his ass is due for a break.
