The D2 Team Comments on D3 - Diablo 3 The Unofficial Site!

Interview with Ben Boos and his comments about D3
Quote:
Ben worked on D2, D2X, (sample of his art here) and D3 (when it was under development at Blizzard North), moved to Flagship Studios for a time, and is now (temporarily?) out of the gaming industry and doing very well in his new career as an author/illustrator. We'll have more about Ben's first book later this year, but for now here's the brief bio he wrote up, and his answers to our interview questions:

Keith Lee looks very young to be a producer on a major title. Caught me by surprise. When I think producer I usually picture a middle-aged guy.

But not everyone knows that the D3 team is almost entirely new to the series; very few of the guys who worked on D2 or D2X are working on D3, and none of the original creators of the franchise are still employed at Blizzard.
Yuck....

Have you heard of Mythos? Lots of the old Diablo team there. You'd love the style I think.

Hehe, very funny considering Mythos is even closer in "look" to WoW than what we have so far seen of D3. Plenty of WoWlike rocks in that game too!

Was going to mention that, but didn't want to derail the new direction of this thread.

More pictures of rocks.

I don't have a problem with the art in D3 but what surprised me was how fast all the bodies vanished after the barb killed them. In D2 they used to stick around and in D3 they are gone within a matter of seconds. I was hoping to have a bloody trail of carnage in my wake but all I am going to get are floors as clean as they were when I first entered.

Good point. I knew there was something I didn't notice.

I think their similarity was the point Foghorn was trying to make.

It might just be a performance thing for the demo.

I'd be surprised if the corpse disappearance time isn't configurable. Even if it's just setting a % of bodies that remain for X amount of time. I didn't mind so much with the trash mobs, but seeing the Thousand Pounder: Gluttony Incarnate disappear so quickly after he dies was a bit of a turnoff. His body lasts all of 10 seconds.
