Fuck no, dude. Don't you know? Diablo sucks if it doesn't have explicit rape scenes and realistic high-res gory mutilation... oh wait. It never did.

Saying that the Fallen Ones presented look "nothing like" their D2 counterparts makes it plainly obvious that you are going to bitch about absolutely everything.

You're right, this is exactly like WoW, in every way. If everyone just agrees with you, will you shut the fuck up about it?

so far as the wow analogy goes- it'd be cool as shit if they retained the unique features of items, instead of cutting them out in the name of player balance.

it was cool that a level 5 unique could still be used effectively at a much higher level, for example. the set sash that made you immune to freezing, or the gloves that slowed target 50%, iceblink on cows. usng twitch on a pvp sorc, simply for the block rate. you gave up on stats, but gained on perks. i think it was the synergy patch that changed most of that, and while i played well after, i always liked that period of diablo 2. it brought a different level of customization, beyond the stats and trees, making the experience of building a character that much more complex and thoughtful.

All this bitching has me confused. Has anyone never heard of "Don't fix what isn't broken?" If it comes down to a choice of Diablo with updated graphics and minor skill tree choices vs Diablo the shittastic advententures then I'd be glad if the former were what resulted.

I see now. You're one of those people that looks for reasons to be offended. It must be frustrating to go through life like that.

Actually, look closer to the backgrounds of The Jail, and Halls of, in chapter 5.
There is some seriously fucked up shit.

Much of the "cute" is the change to 3d models. The grit, and details go away when everything is reduced to polygons and texture maps.
Especially when you are now zooming in. Look at the 2d sprite on the last page, and that was actual size. your imagination made up the details, and now with the 3d model, you can zoom in, and see those details aren't there.

And some of it is a "the Simpsons did it" factor. Wow has so much diversity that its really easy for anything you do, to be similar to something in wow. Especially since alot of Wow came from Diablo.

Diablo 1 had corpses in various states of mutilation, gore strewn around, corpses hanging upside down on crucifixes, corpses torn in half on spikes with entrails spilling out, alters with sacrificial victims with blood pouring out, all sorts of fucked up shit, Diablo 2 had similar things, but to a much lesser extent and only in certain locations.

Now normally I'm not one to argue for gratuitous gore, but I think it played an important part in setting the mood and atmosphere for the game in the original, along with the absurdly creepy soundtrack (babies crying in the distance over menacing gothic music in the cathedral? hells yeah). I'm hoping they don't skimp it completely this time round.

The environment was cool and all for the first Diablo. It really suited it well and added to the feeling of dread and despair. To say the same for D2, though, is just retarded. D2 was a loot fest and that's all it was. Did you really care about the "atmosphere" of the game when you're killing giant fucking cows? Come on, let's be real with ourselves.

The cows were a joke, I'd hardly call that indiciative of the entire game.

Nothing really tops the Butcher. That whole scene was just perfect for the introduction to the Diablo franchise.

It's funny you say that. As this is the same argument that is happening right now with D3. When D2 came out, people said that D2 wasn't as dark and scary as D1 and clearly still do. Which btw, is not true. Its the same shit. D1 graphics weren't as good, and you were adding all the details yourself. Massive rose colored glasses on the gore. Hell had some doodads, the butcher had alot of doodads in his room, and the sacrifice of the prince was about it really.
