| The Official Super Smash Bros. Melee Thread Looking at the "Must Own Gamecube Games" Thread, this seems inevitable. Since apparently many people find themselves spending countless hours playing this masterpiece, which is hands-down the best game released on GameCube, let's discuss it! Over the few years that this game has been out, I've fluctuated between many different characters, but my most consistent characters have to be Yoshi, Peach, and Sheik. I won the citywide tournament in my hometown with Yoshi, who is arguably my best, but have been using a lot of Peach and Sheik lately, hopefully trying to find another character I'm pretty good with. |

+53 Internets | Pikachu rapes newbies on flat maps simply because they don't know how to deal with the pure own he brings. For the longest time I used Ganon as well, but quicker players can dodge his power attacks too easily. Dr. Mario is also wicked powerful too in the right hands, though I haven't played in a few months so I'd have to go back to play and remember why I got pissed everytime my friend would take him. |

| Yoshi's....good? I'll have to look into this! Seriously, I can't stand how he jumps heh. In Melee I prefer Link or Kid Link, Sheik, Captain Falcon, and uh...Roy I think it was? It's either him or the other Fire Emblem guy, I can't remember. /mourn SSB64 Jiggly Puff |

| yoshi's downkick is devestating. i get novelty characters, whichever ones piss my friends off the most. kirby is a fave, donkey kong a close 2nd. i was really starting to like mario due to his combos but had a lot of trouble getting them down.

| I know many people complain about Samus on account of either being too slow or only good for power attacks, but she has always been my favorite on both versions. A mean downkick like Yoshi's and DKs, a few small quick combos and drilling kicks to pack on the damage, and a nicely timed charged shot for the coup de grace. It's all about timing with Samus. I like to build up my charge throughout the fight since rolling out of the charge doesn't deplete it and you only lose it if it's interrupted. Then I try to set up a nice ariel combo, or a juggling combo from the ground, and once they're in the air and stunned...BOOM...unleash at point blank range. The best counter to Samus though is Fox, hands down. Fuck that fucking reflect shield.

| I just can't say no to Kirby even though he isn't exactly the lord of all creation.

| Always been a fan of Fox in both versions. If you can time it right on a flat surface you can kick them half way across the screen before they can break out of it. I was always looking to get into tournaments since my friends are boring as shit, but there are never any around or are held with retarded rules. |

| Mewtwo on a big map = unkillable. It's just too easy to run away from your oponent as Mewtwo. Eventually your opponents will kill each other off or keep chasing you till they fuck up and leave themselves open for a big hit. |

+5 Internets | While I haven't found other people that enjoy SSBM to take it to the "tournament" level, Link is such a badass. They are weak as shit, but I'm sickly accurate with his Arrows. There's nothing better than knocking someone off the edge and sticking em with 3 arrows as they try and double jump back to the arena. |

| As the poster a few posts above said, Mewtwo is basically unkillable in the right hands. He is really vulnerable to melee damage and can be ejected right off the screen pretty easily compared to most other characters, but once you get his teleportation and evasive moves down, you can dodge just about everything thrown at you, or even better, repell it right back with your telekinesis. Mewtwo has been my favorite character ever since I unlocked him and I just can't resist the evil laughter when he wins the match. There's something tremendously enjoyable in grabbing Jigglypuff with telekinesis grip, swinging him in an arc over your head and propelling him just far enough from the arena so he can't hop and puff back to it and watch him fall to his inevitable doom as you go "Bwahaha!". |

+5 Internets | I think there are two kinds of combat games. The first kind is the actual combat games (Street Fighter, Bushido Blade, Virtua Fighter, Guilty Gear, etc) and the second kind is what I would call in french "chamaillage" games. By that I mean the combat is similar to two brats: lots of noise, lots dust, lots of rukkus, but little actual combat strategy (Power Stone, Fatal Fury). I usualy compare them to Poy-Poy, a multiplyer games made by Konami that was about throwing bombs and crates around. For me Super Smash Bros is to combat games what Poy-Poy is to Bomber Man. That is: maybe fun for some, but totaly uninteresting for me.
